No, dual as in the stock configuration.

Oh bah, why would you cut it down to a single pipe? The way the Riviera looks it would look stupid without dual pipes (Even if they are fake duals).

And to not look fake. When I do mine, it will be a single. I like what GM did with the SS Camaro. No BS. And even better with the GTO - true duals disguised as a single pipe.

You can stick a single pipe back, but I think it'll look stupid as hell. The Riviera's not one of the cars that you can just come back with one pipe and look real good. The whole car has almost a symmetry going on that gets thrown off by not having duals.

I won't be "sticking" anything on my car. It will be made to look as close to factory as possible. All cars on the road have symmetry, yet some details are acceptable to put off center, like the exhaust outlet. There's a design concept called asymmetrical balance that lets you get away with putting stuff off center and still look good. This how mine will look when I'm done. I already have the tip from a CL600 Mercedes:

Not as bad as I thought, the cutout helps it look even better. I just think the duals look better, but if you were to invert the pipes from the muffler to the tip (as I've done) and then make cutouts I think that would look great. The tips look too close together the way they come from the factory.

I think the way single and dual (looking) exhaust is thrown around these days, it doesn't matter as much as it used to. The dual exhaust on the riv is fitting. It's a big car with a powerful motor, not to mention plenty of room under the back side so why not. I think one of the biggest laugher-deserving stock exhausts is the newer honda accords. (I'm guessing just the 3.0 v6 models) It doesn't make sense on that like it does on the riviera, IMO, and they are not small, conservative-looking tips either. If you haven't seen it around, keep an eye out. It's actually pretty funny.

I agree with Shintsu on the tips being just a little bit too close together from factory. Actually I really hated how the mufflers face to the corners, forcing the exit pipes to bend out and point back in. It just looks goofy if you actually get down and look at it.

In my case, it was just easier to get two smaller mufflers to fit and effectively keep sound levels down than a big 3" one. It also looks pretty bad ass having 3" pipe why'ing out to the mufflers

Thanks. I've had the idea (and the exhaust tip) for a couple years now, but never got around to doing it. I need to find a welder who can help me with the custom work. It will happen eventually, as I decided to not do any more drastic engine mods. It will be refinement, fine-tuning, and of course maintenance, from here on out.

I agree that dual pipes have gotten out of hand. This is my way of protesting this trend. The last straw was the Nissan Altima. It used to have dual tips only for the 3.5L option, but now the 2.5L has them, too. I say, make the cheaper model look cheaper!

I know the Riv looks good with dual exhaust, but it should have had RWD and dual pipes off the engine. I think the Caprices had this. The rear T-split is almost dishonest, imo. Other than fooling people, what is its purpose?

I actually have 2 tips. They are used, and have a scratch or two, but the chrome is good. I gave a little bit of change for the pair, but you know how MB parts are, especially for a 500/600 series ($$$$$). Since I will only be using one, you or anyone else who wants the other one, I will sell for a fair price. Of course, your install will be a mirror of mine, since the left and right tips are shaped to conform to the rear of the car. Maybe after you see the install you will or won't want to do the same.

I like the way that single outlet looks tucked into the rear bumper like that.

ok..so i finally did my exhaust...had no choice...the cat was split at the seam causing a horrid leak..and not to mention when i got it off,the honey comb inside was broke in 2 pieces,rattling around..

I was just gonna do something simple to get me by,but my boss had some exhausts in sotrage that didnt sell.. for a hyundai sonata, 2.5'' dual muffler..w resonator..Y pipe,all polished...i basically got it fro free... so today i jumped on the project and built it to fit my car... took all day because im picky on certain things.. but all in all it turned out ver good, i like the sound, deep rumble at idle, not obnoxious at WOT,no drone at cruise..what more could i ask for.. i reused the stock DP since it was pretty close to 2.5'' here are some pics...ill upload a sound clip in a bit... car also feels better,but i did loose 1lb of boost on the guage. im not really diggin the polished mufflers...probably eventually paint them black or something..

Holy damn! And I thought $100 for a muffler was expensive...I too will soon be putting some miniturbo mufflers on my car. No brand name, just some that a muffler shop had. I honestly can't see how these expensive mufflers sound any different than the cheap ones other than they have a brand name on them which doesn't mean jack if you can have the same sound for less.
