| I would go 32/32, hard to go wrong with that. You can go stiffer if you like but I wouldn't go under 30. | |

| IIRC 30/30 is what's on the door on 95-99 riv's, but i find that a little too soft. 32/32 is safe for almost any stock car tire. i run 33/36 in my riv b/c i feel it give best overall ride, mileage and performance. you have a different car and tires set so yours will vary slightly so try out different settings and see what you like best. just stay within 28-40psi range for daily driving _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | I had my front driver wheel off yesterday to pull the intake off, so I could wrap it with heat reflective tape. (hope it drops my IAT's in town...). Anyway, looking at the tread, I was certain the center was much more worn than the inside and outside. Sure enough, I have 5mm of depth inside/outside, and only 3mm in the center. Same on the passenger side. The rears aren't quite as bad, 4mm center vs 5mm inside/outside. And I'm running at 36 psi. Tires rated at 44 max inflation. Door jamb #'s are 30 psi. So I dropped down to 34 psi for now, may go to 32.
Anyone else running higher than mfgr ratings, checked and found that much diff? I have a little tire tread depth gauge, cheap too, and recommend getting one to get real #'s for comparison. Would like to hear what you guys are seeing on your wear patterns.

| I used to always run 35 PSI and never really noticed that much tread wear difference? Now I run what the door jamb sticker says. I know the tires are rated for more and at higher inflation you will generally get more MPG but for me the ride is better at the recommended pressure? | |

| Just a thought.....but is it possible with less air pressure and at nominal to high speeds, the least structual part of the tire (the center) is thrown outward by centrifigual force causing more wear? | |

Under inflation will always cause the tire to wear on the edges no matter what the speed.

| Today I was servicing part of the fleet and checked the air pressure in the Buicks. I set the 00 Regal LS, 99 Riv and the 95PA at 36psi, maybe I should lower it to 30-32... I set the GS455 at 32. Bert | |

| I think 32 PSI is optimal for my tires, but I run 35 PSI on the fronts because the outer edge (on the fronts) wears faster with my driving style. It probably wears the center tread more, too, but the higher pressure keeps the outer edges from going bald so quickly. That's the only reason I do it.
I inspect my tires frequently. If it looks like one isn't wearing right, I'll adjust the pressure accordingly. So far, it's usually 35 PSI all around, unless the rear tires appear worn in the middle, then I drop to 32.
Dave, you should check with another PSI meter to verify yours is accurate. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| My outer edges look really good. I'm for sure going to drop down to 32 psi. Maybe they will even out eventually. I'd hate to have to replace them early due to the center wearing prematurely. I'd prefer the Fargo potholes to be a bit softer anyway. Guessing maybe I don't corner hard enough on a regular basis to keep even wear at higher pressures.
I have 3 different pressure testers around here, all read the same.

| I was just thinking, If you tend to hit the throttle hard a lot on starts, or you do a lot of practice launching, higher PSI will allow your tires to spin easier, and when they do, wear would occur in the center tread area.
Either way, lowering pressure will help. Keep in mind that hard cornering will only wear the outer edge, not the inner. Rotation is necessary to even things out. For directional tires, this will involve remounting. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| I had mine set at 38lbs and had considerable wear on the outsides and the middle looks near new. But then I have stiffwall tires that fit 20" so on my next set I will probably go with the tires recommmeded PSI of 40. Max is 44lbs. | |

No, not really in the habit of doing either. However, I seem to recall maybe running 40 psi last summer. That might be the cause. If my memory isn't faulty.

| I run 30 in the front, 35 in the rear for autocross. 32 all the way around for DD, 35 all around for long trips.
On a side note, sears had all of my tires filled to ~38 before I checked them. It really pissed me off since they're rated for 32. It might also explain some of the tire roll/understeer I was getting at the autocross. Will see what happens when I go on Sunday.

| I run 40 PSI with the 18s, 35 PSI with the 16s. I run the highest I can before the tires start to wear in the center. Learned that after running 45 PSI for a while. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
