FINALLY...taking the pluuunge Empty
PostSubject: FINALLY...taking the pluuunge   FINALLY...taking the pluuunge EmptyTue Feb 19, 2008 12:57 pm

Alrighty, I am finally taking the plunge and getting a HP Tuner. It is sort of rediculous I have waited so long. Cheap, lazy, stubborn, you name it, I have has the excuse.

What really pushed me over the edge is the fact that the HP Tuner supports the 3.9lt V6 in my wifes Malibu SS.

Anyway, stand by for a lot o questions.... dunce

Way to go, Dave. Did you have the DHP PowrTuner before, I can't remember?

PostSubject: Re: FINALLY...taking the pluuunge   FINALLY...taking the pluuunge EmptyTue Feb 19, 2008 2:10 pm

I had nothing before. I just had the LS1M scanner. I have had a little custom tuning done, raised shift points, happy knob, ect. But like I said I could never tune. With all the info out there and relatively cheap price, I would be dumb not to finally get a real tuner.

I have tried to read up on the basics, but for me at least, I really need the software in front of me to really understand.

You won't regret getting the HP Tuners software. It's the best out there, imo. After you get everything perfect, reload the old stock code... you'll wonder how you even drove the car the way it was.

Wish I would have waited a while longer, but I went DHP last fall before they announced the end of the product. Still haven't spent any time with it, other than setting it up and trying the scan tool.

I hear ya Dave. Just when I started researching which tuner was on "top" I heard that DHP was ending support. That pretty much made the decision for me.

Congrats, HPT FTW! smile

I regretted my DHP purchase almost as soon as I made it. The minute I opened up their silly looking scanner and reailzed I had sold my autotap for that crappy looking interface just made me sad.

I'll be going HPT this summer.

I'm staying with DHP for tuning, but I don't use their scanner. I kept my AutoTap, and am glad I did!

The main difference between the two is the ability to attach analog inputs to the box in the cable. This allows for wideband or other parameter logging not normally supported through the PCM.
