| Whats happening? It is cranking over at a fast speed as long as the battery is strong...i keep charging it. The security light does come on...but turns off after a few flashes. No voltage to injectors. Replaced crank sensor, fuel pump and filter. and almost all of the relays and fuses. During my various troubleshootings with wires and all other things...it did start...twice. both in seperate situations. But i dont know why. | |

| No did not give much at all. Now ...looking for some help here. Hoping someone here has the answer. Something simple just under my nose. Also..when the car "does" start. It stays running nice and smooth. Plenty of power, shift great. But if you shut it off...it will not start again. PCM? | |

| Igniton switch, possibly. If it starts and will run, try not releasing the switch, just let it rotate back far enough to disengage the starter. Bert | |

| Could be a 'dirty' key or connection in the lock cylinder for the security chip reader. Make sure the key in the chip is clean. | |

| OK tried this with the key and the ignition...no luck. But you got me thinking about this vat system with the ingnition switch itself. Cant seem to find a pcm for a 95..as you all know here and i am learning...much different from 96 on. I have inspected the wires under the hood carefully ...specific to the fuel injectors...they seem to be fine. I feel if i could just get some voltage in those wires it would run. I have checked all the simple stuff...replaced all fuses and relays. One more note: During the times (twice) as it was running...the temp gage and traction control did not seem to function properly. I thank you for all this input...i think you guys have the answer and we are close to makin this baby cruise. Thank you. dwn757 | |

| I believe the temp gauge has it's own sending unit, and the traction control uses a different computer module than the PCM, so shouldn't be related. TC issues are frequently bad caused by wheel speed sensors, which are built in to the wheel bearing/hub assemblies. 130-150K miles seems to be the average lifespan of the front wheel bearing assemblies.
Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on? It should prime at first.

| the trac light will also come on for bad CKP sensors. which will also keep the car from starting. you said you replaced it. did you check all the wires going to/from the crank sensor? was the sensor new, and were all the metal tabs on the balancer there? _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | With the ignition switch in start or run, there should be 12 V on the pink wires to each injector. Do you have that? The other side of the injector is pulled low by the pcm to get current to flow through the injector. That side would be about 11 V at idle, 9 V when driving. If you don't have 12 V to the injectors follow this path: Battery goes to a 60A IGN3 switch under the back seat, to the ign switch via red wire, out of the ign switch via pink wire to the 15A inj fuse on the left side of the dash.
If you do have 12V (when I say 12, I mean whatever the battery is, 12.5, 12.8, whatever) on the injector, measure the voltage drop across the injector during cranking. The drop should be 1 to 3 V at least. If it's zero or less than 1V you can assume that the pcm is not telling the injectors to work. Why not is the next troubleshooting step.

| Very good information and specific. I will check exactly these wires when i return from out of town next week. BUT...I did get to drive it a 3rd time...I purchaces a new battery charger and hooked it up..And I hate to admitt this but...I abused the stater switch over and over and over...and it started...as the last 2 times. Drove the car to auto zone...well, you know the rest with these 95's..Type 2 plug but needs to be read by type 1. No help from them. I did not turn the engine off. Drove it down the road and noticed something that may have to do with this problem. The Temp gage and traction control. Temp gage is "off" and sometimes "on" same with traction control. Now when it comes "on" both...it runs very good....when it goes "off". It turnes into a weeny car. Does this information mean anything? I thank you all for your input. dwn757 | |

| UPDATE!!!! After messing with this 95 Riviera, replacing the fuel pump, filters, relays, crank, cam, throttle...etc...sensors. Finally broke down and replaced the PCM from autozone. $130.00. Now the car runs as advertised. No trouble lights. I hope this helps someone out there who has these same problems. I thank you all for all the informative advise provided here on this site. I was helpful. dwn757 | |
