Hey Empty
PostSubject: Hey   Hey EmptySat Jun 21, 2008 11:36 am

New member...I lurked for a while then had to join.....this is a fantastic site. I can't even tell you how much you guys helped me already. Right now I live in Punxsutawney. Pa. where that rat lives, but will be moving back to Montana in Oct. (We bought a bar)

I have a '96 Riviera, 120,000 miles. Because my wife backed into a pole and smashed the passenger rear corner (not too bad...I can hammer it out from inside the trunk) and the rear bumper cover, I could not pass the Pennsylvania Vechical Inspection because the bumper cover was shattered. Because I couldn't find a rear bumper cover for the life of me, it sat for two years....

Finally I got sick of looking at it and decided to bring her back to life....I found a used bumper cover at Morads (Black......my car is white, but it was better than my other options of red or green.) Installed the cover, replaced the battery and she started right up. Passed inspection after new rotors were put on, a new drivers side window switch (the switch had failed....do you know what a pain in the ass it is to drive through a toll booth and have to open your door every time to pay? You have to huck the change at the machine and hope it all falls in) and a bushing in the steering linkage. Bought a front end bra to balance out the black rear bumper cover...purely cosmetic. Gutted the airbox, K&N filter, (BTW....what purpose does that grey 3 chambered housing in the airbox serve?) and will have 245/35r20 Wheel & Rims on Tuesday. No further mods then that.....my question is....what mod do I do next? Pulley?

Welcome! That grey thing is purely a noise absorber. Helps take away some of the supercharger whine. It's usually one of the first things to go... wink

So could I cut off the chambers, leaving enough space for a clamp, and clamp on a tube from that to one of the front bumper vents as an "extra" air supply"....almost a ram type induction?

I would probably just remove it all together and let the air come in the hole. It might be a cool project to try the ram air type setup. I am not sure if you will feel any power difference between the two, but it might be worth it.

You don't need to cut anything. Take the airbox out and the grey part just slides right out. The hole below it makes a nice easy fenderwell intake, but you could put some hose out the front if you wanted to. Might help a little, since the FWI draws the air right in from the lower engine compartment area anyway...
