| Just curious, could someone photoshop this emblem onto a white Rivie? You can use pictures from my showroom post. I just saw this and wondered how hard it'd be to put on our hood. Would it really work since our hood is so curved? I was thinking you could maybe hammer the sides of it so it'd fit the contour of the hood better, maybe grind it down to fit so it's not as long or something. | |

| I always liked this hood ornament. It's not your average everyday Buick logo and would modernize your Riv. Seen on China Buick's Royaums and newer LaCrosse | |

| Andy, is that just a lone shield with wings on it? That's what it looks like but I can't quite tell. | |

| Oh don't start this again. It's clear Ford ripped of Audi and VW with that POS Five-Hundred. They copied part of the Audi A6 and blended it with elements of the VW Passat.
In another note, DAMN that Five-Hundred is ugly!

| Did our Rivs (95-99) come with a hood ornament at all? My 97 has one and judging from some hack work under hood, don't think it's original. That, and my other 97 does not have one. | |

In another note, DAMN that Five-Hundred is ugly! Actually IIRC they retained the A6 designer to design the Five Hundred, for some differences. The Ford is more serviceable, has different interior room priorities, simpler trim (unless you get the Lincoln version). I drove one (well, the Mercury Sable version) as a rental, about 750 miles total. Not bad actually. I mean, it was not an A6 (used to own one) - handled just as tight but was more insular ride (numb-ish); had better visibility, seats comfy enough for long drives no kidding, but not as adjustable as the Audi. The one I drove had leather upholstery the color of french vanilla ice cream, it was *gorgeous* but did not have silly ornamentation. Was not bad, was not a Riv. But in general - don't knock the Fords until you drive them, they are *not* the same as even 3 years ago. It is *no* surprise they are the best selling US cars now. And I have already written about those Chinese Buicks. If they upgraded the Regal the way that Shanghai GM did, they could *so* sell 'em in the US. LED tail lights, HID headlights, *very* nice interiors - and a very very good ride, it is no surprise why they are preferred versus the Audis over there by folks who can afford either. . Albertj

| Personally, I'd use either a 79-85 "R" or an 86-93 "R" hood emblem since both have a small round base instead of that long chrome thing that the above picture shows. All you'd need to do is drill a dime/penny size hole in the hood. The verticle stem of the emblem fits on top of and through the base and is secured with a clip from the underside of the hood. The stem is spring loaded so folks can't kick (steal) them off.
The "R" emblem on the 95-99 rivs was on the grille only, not on the hood. Sounds like your previous owner stuck one on your riv.

Do you have any pics? I'll get some posted. I still want to take some photos of my car but can't get the 2 years of neglect from the PO out of the paint and don't want it to be seen

| i just think it does not fit there...the hood is too flat and curvy..maybe if it would have a line in the midle (from windsheald down to front). also should be more on front.
like on RR's, Mercedeses, maybach..bentley, bugatti..jaguars and so on.

| Dave (Moldymac)..the ornament on your hood was the one used from 1986 - 1993. The horizontial bars don't go beyond the oval surrounding the "R" whereas previous years of that design did. There was also a gold tone one for the 1986 - 1993 "Gold Package" option. The gold ones are rare.

| It is really far up the hood. But being how the hood is shaped any lower and it would be on an angle. I am surprised its not the gold one, all the emblems on this car were gold at some point. Most are pitted or faded now. From the driver's seat you can't even see it because of its placement. | |
