a little wiring prob also with noise and smoke Empty
PostSubject: a little wiring prob also with noise and smoke   a little wiring prob also with noise and smoke EmptyWed Jul 09, 2008 10:12 pm

Ok I have read most of the posts and got sum ideas, but my problems are 1st the relay for the windows was soo hot I burned my finger. The window motors do work because I manually ran them up and down with a hot and ground, Now I no there is a direct short but where, I have no clue..Where could I start to look for problems? And could I use a short finder to assist in looking for it?Btw the guy before me said he replaced the relay and they worked for a month or so and it did it again.. 2nd problem is it sounds like there is a knock or a rattle comming from between where the supercharger connects to the snout..I pulled off the belt and there is no play in the sc pulley but it does seem like it binds a little when you turn it..Could this be the coupler inside or it may need a rebuild? Last but not least when it idles for longer then 10 minutes it seems to load up and start to smoke a lil blue and smell like its running rich, so I tapped the gas and it went to a light white smoke but then a real strong odor of sulfer came out..What could this be..Any help would be very much appericated!! Also its a 1995 buick riviera series 1 3.8sc, no mods with 165,000 on the odometer..New bosch platinum plugs new autolite professional series plug wires 190* thermostat and working on a CAI.. New oil in sc..If anybody can help it would be very much appericated..Thank you all and a great site with great info, please keep up the great work!!!!!!!

Hey Lance, sounds like it could be the coupler. The S/C itself rarely goes bad. Your tensioner and Idler pulleys need to be replaced too with that many miles. (I know I always preach that guys, but that simple fix cost me a lot of money by letting it go till failure). I know many of the guys here do not like the platinum plugs. I run Autolite 605's in mine. It's one range cooler and it seems to work well with my set up. I'm not sure about the smoking. You might get the CAT checked out to make sure it's not clogged. I can't really help you with the relay either. Sorry bro. Welcome to the board, BTW.

Sounds a little like a LIM leaking coolant.

about the windows - is the relay hot when you are *not* working the windows?

what other simptoms would I see in a LIM leaking? And I unpluged the window motors, the window swtiches and the relay was still hot (the relay stays hot all the time to the point I cant even touch it). And also I took back the bosch plugs and I got the autolite 104s and a new cupler from zzp, since everybody recommends them. Also the guy before me had changed out both tensioners to metal ones (its in the paperwork with the car) and also gonna change the thermostat again to a 180 since it will run cooler..I always thought cooler running the better..Im gonna stay all stock for now.. And I do believe the cat may be clogged cause I looked at the front manifold and I can see oil bubbling at it, (minor valve cover leak to be fixed also...) Thank you all again..

LIM leak symptoms depends on the leak. Might see antifreeze residue or steam in the exhaust *all the time* ( is normal at startup when car is blowing out condensation). Might need a smoke generator to confirm the leak. LIM leak is a good guess if only because so many cars had that problem due to materials used in manufacturing (as opposed to what isused in repair) that were generally OK for the warranty period.

Need to fix it Pronto. Again if you use the search function you will find a write up on it. Search for 'intake manifold' on this forum should work.
