| The fans _could_ be turned down with a TechII if you 'know' anyone at a dealership. It might be worth chatting with the guy at the service department to see if they'd do it for you on the side... but most likely not. | |

| I'd think you would have to already be buddies with the guy at the dealership. In general, they don't want to do anything to a vehicle that isn't stock. | |

| There's a replacement for the tech II - a dongle that attaches to a PC.
Wonder if any more tech II s will hit ebay?

| It isn't 'stock' but it's a very common request down south (texas, AZ...) It's known to be done from time to time, if you talk up the service guy the right way...
Easier to find someone with a programmer though. Check out your local Grand Prix forum to see if somebody has a PowerTuner near you.

| What year is your car? Please put some info in your sig. If it's a '96-'99 the DHP PowerTuner will work. | |

| I don't think Nick has time for such trivial pursuits as putting car info in his sig. I asked him to do it earlier as well, still nada. Eventually we'll all just quit trying to answer the questions, since the first thing we have to do is ask WHAT IS YOUR CAR???? He's too busy putting up 79 posts in 2 days. J/K Nick, but PLEASE fill out your signature with car and mods info, PLEASE! | |

| AT RIVIERA PERFORMANCE, POSTING IN OLD THREADS IS NOT A SIN! Nick hasn't done anything wrong by posting in the old topics. In fact, he's doing it the right way - at least he's reading the old threads - it shows he's doing searches. One of the reasons a lot of forums really suck is because they forbid reviving the old posts. Well, what's old? A week? A month? A year? A Riviera? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Hey Nick, thanks for the added info, it really helps us to give relevant, accurate answers to questions. No worries about resurrecting old threads, as long as it serves a purpose. Better than having 100 identical topics filling up the forums. | |

| Subject: Engine Temp Question - Defective Thermostat? Tue Oct 07, 2008 12:57 pm | |
| I have noticed in the past few week my car seems to be running much cooler than normal. I have a 180 t-stat i put in over a year ago and never had any problems with it. just recently while cruising approximately 70 mph i notice the temps got down to the 140 and 150. but when i get in town the they jump up between 160 and 180. usually my car warms up pretty quick but after a 25 min drive this morning it never got above 160. it was about 78 degrees outside. i know our KR detection doesnt kick in till 158 . i it sounds like i put a 160 t-stat in there, but i know i didnt. is been over a year since i did this. Anybody ever have this kind of an issue. | |

| sounds like your tstat is stuck open.
Around town a stuck t-stat open will be 'controlled' by the fan turn on/turn off like normal.

| If maggot's PCM is not reprogrammed, fans would not turn on until 210-220ºF range. It does behave like a 160º unit. Easy fix, though. Replace the t-stat with a new 180º.
Please let us know where you bought the defective t-stat, and what brand it is if you can find out. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| I think you need to ditch that t-stat soon.
Albertj
PS you're lucky, actually, that it's stuck open and not sticking shut (unlikely but deeadly)

| I just had my anti freeze changed out with a $50 kit to help clean the cooling system (preventative) and after a little rough driving in the city the thermo gauge went to about 210 degrees. the car hasnt done this before. Would the cooler 180 thermo help? | |

| 200* - 210* is not abnormal per the manual. Yes, a 180* thermostat will help keep it cooler and still run well in the winter. | |
