My Rivs in good shape to have 223k miles on it. Runs strong w no problems. SES light is on but the only code i get is the generic code for the evap/fuelcap.
I haven't had t ask any ?'s. But if i do i know you guys are here!!!

You might try replacing that fuel cap. Auto parts store will have them but maybe not with the tether. I've replaced mine several times - every so many years, usually for a broken tether.

If fuel cap does not fix the code, look for a busted hose on the EVAP system. Start at the fuel filler pipe and work your way around.

Thanks, Albertj...
that was the first thing I did....
i unplugged the batt for a couple minutes and it didn't work.(reset the code)
I've read that a hole .02" in any evap line could throw that code...
But I'm still gunna look like you said.... worse comes to worse- i'll take it to the dealer or just replace the lines(all of 'em) whichever is cheaper...

Welcome to the forum Chris...
My second Riv (96 dark green ) had a leaking evap causing a SES light, and my current 98 pearl white Riv had a recent SES light due to gas cap. These two problems seem to cause that a lot. Pretty easy fix and at least not life threatening.
Post some pics when you can. cheers

Wow, is it that common? Should I be proud I'm still on my original gas cap? happy

No, it just 'is' - eventually I quit hangin' it on the cutout in the latch on the gas door. It (the cutout) had a sharp edge, was cutting the tether (slowly).

Duh.

...and by the way, the gas cap eventually wears out - maybe you should just replace yours - again, you can get from dealer or auto parts store, should end up around same price.
