PostSubject: Vette!   Vette! EmptyMon Feb 23, 2009 1:01 pm

My friend just bought an 09 ZR1. The catch was he had to get rid of his 85 with 30K on it. He asked if I wanted it for $100. Who wouldn't. I am now the owner of a car I never really had the desire to own. I had a thought of just selling it as is and putting the money into my Riv. I also think this would be disrespectful to him. I know it would be fun to drive but I am in love with my Riv. Trouble in Paradise! Again, I am very blessed to have such great friends but I think this is one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen! Not so bad when your sitting in it but unfortunately you have to get in and out of it from time to time! Just thought I would share with my brothers! Can I put my Riv body on the chassis of the Vette? That would be sweeeeeeeeeet!

Even though its not the best looking car its still a hell of a package. 230 hp 330 lb/ft means you can take the quarter in 14.1 @ 97, and a good handling chassis. For $100 i'd thrash it maybe even upgrade the TPI 350, could be a fun car to throw around and not worry too much if it breaks. Have fun!

The '85 is a fun car! But can be expensive to get parts for. Wait until you find out how much new tires will run you! But then... wait till you see how well it handles when you aren't driving 15 year old tires that are all dried out...

My friend growing up had a low-mile '84 for many years that his uncle gave him. It would slide all over the place because it still had the original tires. $1200 later the thing could corner like... like a 'Vette! A seriously fun car!

wow Z...Z...Z-ZR...1? 2009 ZR1? Holy f shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked g shit.

I like the C4 'Vettes kinda. They look like spaceships at the front when they're nice and clean, and silver. It was a brand new approach to Corvettes when some guy with a german-sounding last name was placed in charge, and aerodynamics were given a high-priority status. Is it clean? I'd imagine.

What I'm thinking - unless there was another ZR-1, not the one with the Mercury engine, that I don't know about. I thought all of those were rather seriously collectible, and my bullshit alarm is going off. WAY better car than a Riv, sorry folks. Also, "my friend is getting an 09 ZR1" are not words to be dropped lightly.

There was the 1970-72's equipped with the LT-1 350. Solid lifters, 11:1 compression, and big cam bounce

There was a ZR-1 in 1988 - fast car, pretty rare, but they can be had for $20-30k.

You just bought a Corvette for $100 with 30k on the clock and you actually found something to complain about? I think that's even more amazing than someone selling a Corvette for $100!

Last time I checked, $100 didn't really buy much of anything, not even a good DVD player. But that's okay, sports car for $100, I suppose you could have got a better looking car for that money. Take what you can get, I suppose...

Shintsu, the 'Vette you posted was a regular(haha) Callaway, the one we're referring to was the Callaway Sledgehammer, which had all sorts of special mods and could go crazy fast with the twin-turbos.

I am very grateful. I went to take a look at it yesterday and it needs some interior work as well as a few fixes on the body. Motor and tranny are fine. Tire are two years old but it hasn't been driven so I'm wondering if they have flat spots. It is pretty cool with the digital dash and all! I guess I'm going to do some rear wheel drive burnouts this summer!

Dude, I took like 250 someodd pictures at the Corvette museum...the 427 Corvette is there. The second to last was the article in C&D, the third was my in person rendition taken at a similar angle. I have a shitload more...
Spoiler:
Yes I took the damn pictures...I have even more of some of these same cars if you still don't believe me...really if I zoomed in on a magazine the pictures wouldn't look as clear as those and you'd be able to see the paper material...

Here's an alternative view of the C&D Corvette

Greetings Gentleman.Yesterday I had the chance to go and see the car and mess around with it. Much to my surprise, when I popped the hood I saw Crossfire Injection. Then I looked @ the old Registration and saw it was a 1984. Either way its still pretty damn cool. Very much in need of some interior repairs and some body work for sure. I will have pics in a week or so. The mechanic where it was stored got it running for me yesterday after I left so I didn't have the chance to hear it run. My friend has all the new carpets and seat covers along with the door panels. All brand new. All I really have to invest in is some body work and paint. I am pretty stoked at this point! Thanks for all your posts. I really enjoy hearing from all of you!

Are all the replacement interior pieces NOS (new old stock)? Even if not, that's pretty awesome, and more money that you'll save.

Considering you got the car for practically nothing, you could invest in a quality paint job.

Too bad he only got to drive his Corvette for 30k miles though, what a waste! Ah well, his loss is your gain. Plus I'm sure once he has his new 'vette, he won't miss his old one much.
