| The engine and supercharger do not use the same oil supply. Find out if the engine is actually damaged, or if only the supercharger has failed. Check SC oil level. If it has oil, the blower is probably ok. Good luck! _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| that still don't sound right to me. I don't see how the oil can get sucked out of the supercharger. when the belts off the supercharger doesn't work so it couldn't off just sucked out the oil from the belt being off. I think it has bigger problems than just a belt! | |

| This isn't a deal I would be real excited about unless the Riv was darn near free. My guess it it will cost the seller more to fix the car than it is worth. The seller would get most money from this thing by parting it out.
To get a handle on what it's worth use http://www.vmrintl.com/, put in what you know about the car and see what price it calls for. I think you will find it's worth about a grand. A rebuilt supercharged engine with warranty will cost somewhat more than that. Looking at EBay I'd guess you could get a running one for $1,500 - $3,000.
If you just want a Riv and if you have the ability/desire to replace the engine (used engines are not that hard to come by) then I'd suggest making a deal at a price that assumes you'll replace the engine. From py perspective, however, no matter what price you pay this blown-engine Riv is likely to end up costing you more than finding a running one unless, literally, the seller gives you the car. So if the money is important to you, you may want to find a couple other cars you want and can afford to compare this deal to.

| The engine should run fine with the supercharger belt off. You will be missing power, but you should at least be able to drive it around and make sure everything else works. If the supercharger is really destroyed, you won't know until you take it off how extensive the damage was. If the bearings went bad and the rotors were grinding metal shavings into the intake, I would be pretty worried about the life of the valves/pistons. If it siezed without spewing metal shavings into the intake, you can just drop a used supercharger on it (should be available for a couple hundred at most), put fresh oil in the S/C and go.
OTOH I wouldn't believe anyone who told me the S/C sucked the oil out of the engine... If he really believes that happened, run.

| "engine runs fine with supercharger belt off" means if it is not running fine withthe belt off there is other stuff wrong. Ask the seller if he/she took the car to a quick change oil place such as Jiffy Lube recently. Albertj | |

The owner is either clueless about how his car works, or knows what is wrong and is trying to pull a fast one on you. I would not buy this car w/o having it checked out by someone who knows what to look for. Not only do the SC and engine NOT share an oil supply, they do not even use the same type of oil. There is ZERO chance of either sucking the oil out of the other. While the engine will run w/o the SC belt on, keep in mind the 95 SC belt operates other things besides the SC, like the water pump, I believe. The later years can be OPERATED w/o a SC belt on, not the earlier models.

Exactly. This means a frozen SC bearing will shut down the entire engine, because the belt drives the accessories, too. You can run away from this, or you can ask more questions and possibly find out what's wrong. I agree with Derek that the blower needs to be removed to determine how bad the damage is. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^
