| Well i never really use the ac or airconditioning and when i was taking someone home i turned it on since they were cold. Thats when i noticed the acceleration and strange noises starting to happen. Drove it for ahwile then the car starts to smoke looked under the hood and could tell it was coming from there. i guess its shot and fluid is leaking and i took it to a shop and im quoted 1,186.97 $ for the compressor, service, and fluids.Im going to take it to another shop and see what they say. Now im wondering how hard is it to fix it yourself and could i just take the belt off the ac compressor? My parents and i have decided to not go ahead and fix the car things keep on breaking down and need to be replaced and we have spent way to much fixing it but i guess thats what you get with an older car. Im keeping the car but storing it and getting another car as my daily driver. its still drivable and drives fine but there is always a loud screeching noise coming from it even with the ac or aircondtioning off. thanks | |

| Anyone know if you can do an AC delete on the series one? http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IR&Product_Code=IAD-380&Category_Code=PBF
I've often wondered what it would take to use the series 2 kit, but currently my AC still works.... _________________

saved weight. you can remove a lot of components with the a/c gone. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Well i talked to some people and they said if i do an ac delete or take the belt off it that there is another pullie that runs off it and that there is the issue with the length of the belt with it gone too.Is there a way i can just put a pullie in place of the ac compressor that does not do anything so the belt issue does not come up?

That is what this thing is supposed to do: http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IR&Product_Code=IAD-380&Category_Code=PBF _________________

You'll want to take some measurements on the A/C bracketry and see if it's the same size.

| according to some part comparisons at rockauto the S2 compressor pulley is 5.12" while the series 1 clutch pulley is 5.5". the brackets look very similar though. 96 s/c riv http://info.rockauto.com/FourSeasons/FourSeasonsDetail.html?58994.jpg&58994html.jpg

Of course Evan might find out first. _________________

| You could just buy another compressor at a junk yard. I found one for $100 and didn't replace anything else, just refilled with R134 and it's worked fine for two years now. You wouldn't even have to add freon if you didn't care if it worked. You really need it though so at least the defrost works on wet days. | |

| Thanks guys i think i just might fix it myself. Its going to be pretty expensive to have it fixed so i might just go to the junkyard if the ac is the same on na series I. Any of you guys know how hard it is to change out the compressor? | |

| I thought it was pretty easy. Bolt off/on. Before I replaced it I took it to a repair shop and they drained the R134 for free. You may not have any left in the system but you can check by poking the fill valve to see if any comes out. I'd definitely say try it yourself. | |

| A/C fix and Cheap rarely work in the same sentance. The cheapest way out is to have a shop capture the freon, then replace the compressor and o-rings yourself, then have the shop evacuate and recharge it. Many A/C shops will work with you on this, but it would really suck to replace the compressor only to have it die in 6 months or a year, you are better off in the long run getting a new/reman compressor, one from a junkyard is likely to be in the same condition as the one you are replacing! | |

| true, but just as i learned with a fuel pump, i can buy them used for $20 and pop it in, rather than pay $300 from Autozone. I can buy 10 for that price. If I buy two or three, chances are good at least one is going to work. So for $40-50 I can buy it and have a spare. The place I go has warranties so if its bad I just take it back. I havent had any problems so far. | |

Frost is moisture. What does the A/C system do? It removes the moisture from the cabin air. The A/C compressor is commanded on whenever defrost is selected (even when heat is needed). This way, the air hitting the windshield is dry, and can effectively melt the frost. Ever notice on some days when you have the vents or floor selected (heat), sometimes you'll get "fog" just above the defroster vents? Or if you come out on a hot day after the A/C has been running, car sitting, there's "fog" above the defroster vents? This is because the air "leaking" into the defroster vents isn't dried by the A/C system.....

| Thanks abaddon, I never noticed any of that. I wonder what part of my A/C system went bad, my father and i checked the freon and it's full, but it still only sends out warm air. | |
