So here I'll start the picture dumping
close up on one of the bores - healthy factory crosshatch
INTENSE stage3 heads mostly cleaned up
ARP stud set and MLS gaskets ready for the head
pretty shit
L26 front cover and James modded oil neck with oil filter bypass delete
I'll edit in some more of the pics here soon and point out some stuff James showed me.

The balance shaft is being removed but at the same time, It's getting a bigger cam and more importantly, the solid mounts are going in so I have no doubt I'm going to feel new things but how much of it is an affair of the balance shaft or lack of, I couldn't say.

got the HP rear mount all in. Looks good
Torsen is also in. Other than a few tricks for dealing with the lock rings, it's a fairly uncomplicated install.
dropped the motor in and torque converter bolted back up but I still have plenty of little snags slowing me down now.
I'm short 4 pushrods due to them getting bent in the old motor. I'll probably order a set of comps from zzp tomorrow. Pray they have the 7.300" ones in stock! I also need a knock sensor for a 1997 that still has the factory thread sealant in tact or I'll have to throw mine in with new sealant which will affect its sensitivity and give me unreliable knock readings. I could replace it later on but I don't really want to take a bath in coolant in the future if I can avoid it.
Anyone have a spare 1997 knock sensor? I suspect the 1997(and down maybe)

I can tell you that in a similarly equipped Regal I did not like it one bit. I would never do that to my DD.

Maybe without the balance shaft the new engine will shake itself apart - then you can send me that Torsen diff!

I hate to say it but it's pretty much a guarantee the torsen will be coming out in the foreseeable future. When I obliterate my transmission, I'm gonna have to make some decisions. That torsen could fund an 4T80e swap, but then I'll be back to having an open diff again lol.

OK intercooler people, what did you do with this?
The rear intercooler pipe goes straight into the accessory belt tensioner bracket. It looks like I could strategically grind down the parts of the webbing to give the hose enough room to squeeze through but I'm not certain that'd work.

Take an inch out of the pipe and tig it back together. Tap the tensioner to pipe thread and install a hose barb. Or maybe I'm clueless, but it looks doable, just probably a PIA.

i usually cut the core tubes at the 3/4inch step and clearance the core halves at the snout bolt hole boss for easier hose fitment, i just put a small notch in the tensioner.
look at the pics of eric's whippledRiv and youll see how the hoses are routed
i sent you a text

Also you can use a molded elbow to help get around that corner without kinking the hose.

It's getting there. I got the new pushrods in the mail today and put them in. Valve covers are on. Fuel system is done. I just got the IC & blower on. I'm working on grinding down the back of the alternator to clear the blower. Needs a good bit of grinding.

I'm to the point where I can't really tell if I'm tired anymore. Been up for a great many hours. I have to go to work in an hour so I'm gonna drive the car around some and take it kinda easy on it before I can start getting into tuning. I'll post back later with more.

Actually nope, I take that back. For the first time this season, it's actually snowing appreciably and my tires are bald on the riv so I think it's gonna have to wait. I can say right now though that the solid mounts and the balance shaft delete makes for some noticable vibrations on and off with rpm. I don't mind the feeling of it at all but I'm definitely going to need to dampen some sections of the dash for starters. The noise while idling in gear is not cool. I could raise the rpm too I guess but the exhaust note sounds pretty awesome. I wouldn't really say that it's a ton lumpier than the xp cam but more aggressive, less lazy rumble.
