| Subject: HELP. Engine stalls kinda acts like vac leak... Sun May 17, 2009 8:55 pm | |
| Hey guys, I haven't been around in a while. The Rivi's been garaged and just pulled it out for a spring drive. I had to put the battery charger on it for a few hours but then it fired right off. I let it run in the drive for about five minutes or so then it sputtered and died. It will start, but then immediately dies. The engine shakes hard like it has a major vac leak but everything looks fine. I've never had this problem in the 12 years I've owned the car. FYI: Plugs and wires are fine. Fuel filter should be fine. Intake manifold gasket changed last year. I'm baffled. Ideas? Thanks for your help. | |

| Fuel presssure will cause this also.
Take some carb cleaner and spray around the intake manifold and vac lines. If the idle kicks up all of a sudden, then that means the vac leak is sucking in that carb cleaner.

| I don't know if it will run that long. I dies pretty quick. I don't think it IS a vac leak. The engine just shakes and sputters like that. It was running fine and then it was like the flip of a switch...Now it starts and dies. | |

| BTW thanks for the reply Josh. I appreciate it. I pushed it back in the garage. It acts like it trying start if I'm cranking it over but it won't start now at all. I can hear the fuel pump working so I know that's not it. Bad gas from sitting over the winter? | |

| that's possible. Try some ether through the intake and see if it runs on that. | |

| Can you keep it running with the gas pedal? Can you get it to start with 1/2 throttle manually? If it were a bad FPregulator overpressurizing, you might have flooded it.
If there is no spark, you more likely have an ignition problem... bad crank or cam sensor likely, but there are lots of other things it could be first.
