Subject: Weird belt noise...help? Thu Jun 11, 2009 10:53 am
My car has been making a weird chuggy noise, and I recently figured out what it is. The belt seems to run about 1/8" closer to the rim of one of the pulleys sometimes, and it's random but very audible. Here's a video that'll explain the rest.
Anyone with some insight to this?

Sounds to Me like the bearings in your water pump are shot.
Has the car been running warm or losing coolant lately?

you need to reshoot that video with some good lighting. I would guess at one of the idler pullies.

No, it's not a water pump problem. This noise only happens when the belt shifts a little bit, it happens for a couple of seconds at a time at random. For some reason, when I uploaded the video to YouTube, all of the brightness went away, so I'll go out and shoot a quick video with my flashlight to make sure.
