door handle play! help!

i need help with my pass. door, somehow, after the minor deer incident, (in exterior page) i went to open the pass. door and felt it give out. all play and no open. DOES open from inside. what is this? how do i get at it without wrecking all the plastic trim?. is it all screws and pieces? is it just the lock mechanism? need any parts? need any professional expertise and not my amateur hands? let me know please!

i think the plastic part of the handel from inside broke.
it is hooked from inside to the lock.

There was one writeup on this website how to repair it if i remeber right?

Snowdog's link pretty much tells it all ... not a real hard repair, just have to be careful

not my forte, but any tips on gettin at these pieces? had th handle off and thos two top corner screws and the trim screw by inner handle but then i got stuck, i would love to fix this myself. i knew i shouldnt have let other ppl open the damn door! just solo cruising from now on!

Yep, the door handles are a major weak point on our cars. You shouldn't even think of them as a handle. They are a latch for unlocking the door only. The door has no exterior handle, you swing it open by the edge.
