| Hey guys came here after much searching and couldnt even find it on here.
I am looking to see what cars transmissions I can use for a swap.
I have a 95 SC which would make it a 3800 series 1 with the 4t60-e
What other cars would be a direct bolt on replacement?
I have had conflicting reports Thanks guys

Ohhhh You came in and asked a question.. you got a few replies.. mine was very good opinion.. its super easy to swap in a Series II/III motor and a tranny and just swap in the donor pcm.. pretty simple... Now i'm being nice.

I have had conflicting reports Thanks guys Sometimes you have to wait a while before the person with the right answer comes along. Sometimes nobody knows the right answer. For example, I got a 4T65E-HD for my '98 from a Grand Prix, and it turned out they make different external castings, and the rear trans mount was different, and I ended up cracking the case of my replacement trans. I don't know if anybody here knows about the '95s and what other cars, but a lot of used parts dealers have access to a guide called 'hollanders' or something like that, that would be the best place to check. Also try the website "www.car-part.com" - put in year/make/model and it will list all the used replacement options in your area. You should be able to figure out from that what kinds of cars the transmissions are from. Other cars that had 3800s in 1995 that I know of - Bonneville, Park Ave, Regal, LeSabre, some big oldsmobiles (drawing an olds blank)... that's all I can think of, and I have no idea if they had the same transmissions or not. Good luck! -Derek

| (I've removed a number of posts that should never have appeared in this topic. There was a page of crap before any useful responses to the poor guys question.
This is the series one 3800 tech section, where people should be able to ask questions in their own thread, where others can refer to it later if they have the same problem, Without having to sift through a page of unrelated banter. There are other sections on the forum for you to have your "exchanges" with each other.

| I'm not sure if bryan was looking for an upgrade? or just a direct replacement?
If hes looking for a direct replacement, as was said earlier, the 96 should work, or perhaps another 4T60e for some other car but it would be a bit hit and miss as to if the external castings were the exact same. _________________

The 4T60 in the 96 is the same as the 95 except for a few parts that were beefed up.

| As far as an upgrade (if thats what he's looking for)... there is a shift kit for the 4t60e that I'm going to be trying in a year or so.. but needs the whole trans to be rebuilt at the same time.. also some machining to various parts of it can be done at the same time as specified in the instructions of the kit. I ended up finding about it ages ago an some buick site...

when you say "beefed up" what did they improve on? I cant recall exactly, the 95 trans is the 4T60E- HD, but I read on bonnevillepro or another site while researching the transmission and found that the 96 is a little beefier than the 95. Unfortunately I dont remember the exact pieces

Actually, I recall the same thing... and something about that even the transmission pans on some were not stamped as 4T60-hd, but still had some of the HD parts in them. (l67 - my bad, hit edit instead of quote...) _________________

| According to Hollander interchange the only transmission that will work for a 95 SC riviera is the transmission out of another 95 sc riviera. | |
