| I currently have 1 600watt max (300 RMS) amplifier pushing around and average of 25 amps. Very rarely does it surpass 30. I was wondering if I added another 600watt max (300 RMS) amplifier that draws around another 25-30 amps if it would be to much for the alternator to take. If it is not to much for the alternator can you tell me where the best spot would be to hook up the 2 power wires I would have running?

| How are you calculating max amp draw? Are you going by fuse rating, or some other method? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| That shouldn't be a problem. If the amps used their full capacity every moment they ran, it would be a cause for concern but its in spurts. The battery pretty much takes care of all that current oscillation. | |

| I have a Fluke DC amp meter that I hung over the main power cable and played different tones in hz vary from 18hz all the way to about 60 hz. I just took about what the highest I saw. | |

| You can add another amp but it would be a very good idea to run a 2-3 farad capacitor to compensate on long throws of bass and give your alternator that chance to catch up. You should be okay with your factory alternator for quite awhile.
Look at it this way, I am running 2880 rms/5760 watts max power in my system in my Riv atm. Thats just off the factory alternator and a 6 farad cap. I do plan on a larger alternator in the future though, the bass hits so hard and draws alot of juice. You should be safe with a good quality, fair size, cap.

| Could you recomend me a good capacitor brand? And for the 2880 rms power, I'd say you would have to have some dynamat in that riv or she'd be rockin like crazy!!!!! | |

| Oh yes its Dynamatted to the tits.
As far as capacitors go, it's pretty hard to go wrong they are basically just a small power storage cell. I have owned three different types in my experience with car audio. I had a Rockford Fosgate 1farad, a Stinger 2 farad, and now a Soundstream digital 6 farad, all have proven to be durable and never posed any issues for me, with the exception of upgrading in size due to upgrades in the system or a new system in itself.
Figure on yourself needing approximately 1 farad for evey 1000 watts of dynamic power. Since you say you'll be running around 1200 dynamic I would go with a 2 farad or even a 3 to be safe.

It's not - just heed the instructions especially (1) that it's warm enough where you're working to do the install, Dynamat does not like to stick when it is cold and (2) be sure to clean off the mounting areas as recommended or the stuff will not only not stick but you won't be able to make it stick. Consider using 409 cleaner spray and/or mineral spirits - see what works for you. Albertj
