| I ran into a prob, instaling a timing cover seal while the cover was on the car. With the crank in the way,its a bitch to get the seal on square without jacking it up.The first seal went on no prob with the cover off the engine.I went in there to fix a oil leak at the timing cover.,I'll just check the timing chain while in in the area and throw on a new timng cover seal, and the chain if need be. @ 145 or so thousand,it was imaculate! no stretch. so I left it alone.but I went ahead and did all the seals and gaskets.I did not notice that my original timing cover had a crack in the area behind the HB.So I scoured the yards for a new timing cover.Found a not so bad one.But like a dumb ass,I installed the new cover without the new seal! now I have to figure out how to not f..k it up.The first attempt failed.bent it to shit.So I thought making a tool would prevent a drain on my wallet by not messin the other ones up. It helps to have the tool,I didnt have a big enough socket to do the job,and drawing in the seal with the crank bolt is the best way.I proper tool costs $25 and has to be special ordered,2 weeks delivery. I started with scrap I had laying around the garage, a dom square 3x4 tubing. next flat plate steel, cut round and just proud of the square 3x4. I then cut down to 7/8" a piece of steel tubing 1 1/2. I then welded the three pices together to form the tool I wound up trimmng the round tubing some...I then drilled a 3/4 hole for the crank bolt to pass through...It worked pretty good. drew the seal right in no prob. | |
