| I'm searching around for a laptop mount set-up to keep in the car. What I've been finding is that most of the products out there for full-size laptops have a base ear that gets bolted down to your front passenger seat track mount. We don't have bolts in those locations so that's out. I'm after a solution that doesn't require any holes to be drilled anywhere I cannot easily replace (so a universal base that gets bolted to the floor of the car is out!) I kinda looked around the car and the dash knee panel just to the left of the glove box seems to be the most promising and it could easily be replaced if you want. A base plate could be bolted right up to that and would work if it has an adjustable knuckle so the bracket doesn't extend up at the extreme angle of that dash surface.
Just wondering if anyone has got a laptop mount or knows of any good vendors out there that I could check out.

| We install those at my work for squad cars. We don't purchase them, but they are Lund brand. They still require holes and mounting to the car. Not sure if there is anything out there that does not require holes to be drilled in order to bolt it down. I just use my passenger seat. If someone is sitting there I make them hold the laptop | |

| A laptop is heavy. Any stand that can support a laptop is going to need to be bolted down. For smaller devices I love the custom fit mounts and holders at proclipusa.com (although they can get a little pricey). You can use one of their custom fit mounts with any holder, not just their brand. | |

It's secure that way, yes, but I'd like to be able to operate it... oh and watch porn with it while I'm driving?

| Mount setup I've come up with. It's a 1/2" steel pipe flange deal mounted up to the passenger side knee panel between the center console and the glove box. I painted it to match the panel best I could. Then connect together some pipe pieces with another flange mount that attaches to the laptop shelf. If I can finish it up tomorrow, I'll take the rest of the pics. Hopefully it's strong enough. That's about how it sits installed. The mounting tabs that should be holding most of the load are the tougher ones mounting vertically at the front of it so that's good.

| flange matches up pretty well There's the tray. Right now I'm waiting for the thread locker to cure and then I have some plastic corrugated hosey stuff to put around the ugly pipe for final look. Provided it holds, it's in a very good spot - not in the way of anything. alternatively, I considered mounting the flange right on the side of the console since it'd be a little stronger but the passenger seat would hit it if it were moved up so no good. | |

| I'm guessing there are no laws about having a display screen facing the driver in your state? In Ontario you can have a GPS, but nothing capable of playing media(video, etc) facing the driver... _________________ | |

| I'm pretty sure if you got pulled over with that, esp if it were on, the cop would say something. In my state it's illegal to text and drive. Having a keyboard next to the shifter probably counts as texting? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| That IS an awesome set-up, though. Don't give them reason to pull you over!
I keep my lappy on the passenger seat, throw the case underneath for support. If needed, I can close it faster than a porn slap. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| Thanks for the support guys. It seems to hold fine. The pipe and stuff is rock solid. The plastic dash panel flexes a tiny bit so if you drive over some railroad tracks and stuff like that it shakes a little bit. No big deal.
This is where you can get most of the stuff I used. They have a nice cheap, modular laptop tray. I trimmed about 1.5 inches off the back of mine since it stuck out much farther than any typical laptop and that gives you 1.5 inches of rear room to shorten the long arm which is good. I think I used an 8" horizontal pipe and the vertical one you can do whatever you want but figure about 3" if you want to be able to use your right cupholder and not have the laptop be over the dash. Then one female-female 90 degree elbow and one male-female 45 degree elbow. This is all standard 1/2" pipe stuff. Other than that, you just need four 1/4-20 countersink screws (about 3/4 length although length isn't important), nuts, and washers to mount the flange to your dash and I used red thread locker on the horizontal pipe pieces. I left the vertical unlocked since you can just tighten it nice and tight and it won't go anywhere. Unfortunately I don't have any easy way to remove the whole thing although it takes about 30sec to get the table off the flange if I need to with a phillips screw driver. The vertical section of pipe could be unscrewed quickly also.

| I think the upper left mount tab broke because there's some play/movement in the panel there that wasn't before. I have a pretty good idea for how to reinforce that but it's not going to get done for a while. Other stuff going on. | |
