I've had a crap temp gauge for awhile now.On some days it works on other days it reads nothinG.Today it read nothing. When I got home, been checking a nasty little oil leak at the pan,I discovered I had a little less than a quart in the pan! I cant believe the engine didnt seize? I'm amazed at the sturdiness of the 3800 block.
I have to do the Alu pan mod soon.It requires a filter relocator kit and bigger 5/16-18x1' bolts.and the Bonne pick up tube of course.I wonder why the oil pan bolts are standard and not metric? like most of the other bolts throughout the car?
Anyway,I hope it works. If the Bonne pick up tube is an odd shape ,it's a bust.either way I'm keeping the filter relocator.

So the low oil light on the dash didn't come on?! What's the point of the damn thing if it won't even tell you when you only have 1 quart of oil!

I never knew that low oil level could be monitored by watching the coolant temp gauge!

I think your engine is toast. Why not just buy a new Riv and start fresh?
