| Well, yes. And we who appreciate Buicks are not at all surprised. Of course most of them are, to say the least, out of reach. If you had $140,000 (their estimate) to spend on a '53 Skylark, you probably couldn't find one for sale at that price. Imagine--sectioned, cut-down windshield, cut-down doors, and 5 Boroni wire wheels at $100 each. All this came straight from the factory for $5,000! In 1953 you could still get that unbreakable straight 8 in the other models if you wanted, but the new V-8 was available as an option except for the Skylark, where it was standard. I had a '53 Special with the V-8 and it was a hell of a car. Wish I still had it,, but I wouldn't trade my '95 Riv for one. For the Skylark, oh yeah, but.... | |

| Jim, when I was in my early '20s (1999), I was looking for a "new" car to replace my '76 Dodge Dart Swinger, and my sights were set on something from Pontiac/Olds/Buick, between '65-71. A '65 Riviera was the ultimate goal, but I couldn't find one. I did find a mint condition 39k mile '69 Pontiac Grand Prix for $10k - no way could I afford that. Down the road from me, there was a silver '62 Buick Special with the alum 215 V-8 for $5k. I really wanted the Special (still can't believe how small it was!), but instead found a '70 Olds Ninety Eight Holiday Coupe w/455 for a grand less. I still own and drive the Olds today - great car. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
