| I've noticed a great amount of my engine problems may be, could be, solved by a spray-on felxible sealant.
Is there a product that is safe to use in the engine area? Heat resistant and non-flammable?
I feel I still have a vacuum leak near the old EGR tube and a clean, planned spray of a fexible 'silicone' sealant would cover hairline openings and fix the weird occasional coughing/hard running and surging.
Also I've been keeping my eye on a VERY SLOW brake fluid leak at the Master Cylinder. Every 6 months the reservoir goes down about an inch causing the ABS light to light up. Refilling fixes the issue...for 6 months. Again a clean spray in that area after scrub cleaning I feel would at least bring my 6 month maintenance up to 10-12 months if an eventual leak happens.
Has anyone used a product like this with success? Can you recommend a brand?

| my 95 egr tube had a crack in it.you have to remove the tube and examine closely. its at the flange. might be your problem too. i fixed mine by using a permatex high temp sealant.silicone i think it was. worked good.still holding strong. | |

| If the MC gets low on fluid, check brake pad wear and check for seeping rusted or damaged lines. | |

| This past Summer I had removed the EGR tube and created a new gasket for the area and covered it with a hardening liquid gasket product. It was a great solution seeing as the EGR tube is no longer available for my Riv despite very similar parts on 'sister' models.
I assume the hardening product must have cracked. The tube was the last part of that essembly that I replaced. Everything else is new within a year's time.
As for the MC, I can visually see evidence of a leak right under the unit and on the back wall of the engine bay; steering wheel area. I'd want to clean it up and really check it out to see where the leak is.
If I could get this unusual 3-4 times a month 'Check Engine Soon' light to stop coming on and have the unusual coughing issue 1-2 times a month, I'd be happy as a pig in slop driving a near 20-yr old car for a lot longer.

If that is the case, if I were you I'd look at a replacement MC - even a junkyard one would likely be an improvement, and check prices on new ones while you are at it...
