Write-Up: Yellowed Corner Lenses

What color is your car?

its a dark green... i am going to see if i can photoshop it first. If it looks decent, I'll giv it a shot. I'll eventually buy some new ones...buuut, till then?

Of all the cornering lenses I've tinted thus far, none of them were yellowed on the inside. Just a LOT of hazing and discoloration on the outside surface that is taken out easily with wetsanding at 2000 grit and polishing with a reputable polish (doesn't even need to be plastic polish).

Here we go, the ultimate Riviera cornering lens solution (for now) -



Brand new lenses, reskinned with Crystal View on the outside, and the inside of the front lip. I couldn't get to the part of the lens inside the housing, so there is potential room for improvement.

We'll see how they hold up as the years go by. Hopefully very well because in 3 years it'll cost $500 to get these the way the price keeps going up.

Where did you get them and how much?

Monster Parts Online, $100. I was surprised to get them at that price. GM Parts Direct wanted $160.

Yes, for the pair. Lt and Rt.

not bad. for your headlights, did you clean them or were they never fogged?

Never fogged. The headlights were made of good stuff! Better than what I've seen Mercedes-Benz use.

Did not think the headlights were faded but apparently so. Instructions say it will look the way it does wet before final sealant but not so true, looked better after putting the final coating on. This was using Crystal View - would strongly recommend.

yours looked more oxidized than yellow, but it worked just the same. interested in how long the clear protection lasts.

It's supposed to be lifetime as long as it's properly applied. If you look along the top side of the passenger side headlight it's somewhat hazy there before - afterwards it's clear. Amazing how a relatively minor thing can improve the looks of a car quite a bit. Clean and clear headlights just like it was a new car. I'm not sure how much the clarity of the lights are improved but it looks nicer when I look at it. I now look at my headlights the same way I stare at the clean shiny chrome wheels. Definately worth the $28 I paid (It was on sale for around $25 when I bought it) for it.

hey everyone dnyce on here again does anyone kno how to clean these yellow headlights??? I've heard of using sandpaper??? but i just got the car and i wanna be careful about cleaning it.

I used a kit from turtle wax called headlight lens restorer. available at auto parts stores, this kit has worked very well for me. It has 3 different sanding restoration pads that you use with water and when finished with the 3 steps of sanding you then polish the lenses with the lens compound.
i think it was about 12 bucks.

That sounds like the same procedure as the 3M product only less expensive.
BTW, the free shipping code has expired on the 3M site.

I would like to find one of these kits that include as a final step, some kind of clear-coat that is UV rated to help prevent the lenses from yellowing again. Has any one seen such a thing that is less expensive than the replacement cost of the cornering lense.

I am going to give the 3m kit a try, and I am going to do my tail light lens as well, the backup lights are yellow as hell so the red is too I am sure, even though you cant really tell.

my corners, and backup lights r yellow as well. might pick me up some of the 3m stuff this weekend.

Don't know about that 3M stuff - it looks more like that garbage they advertise on TV that doesn't ever work. My results were done with CrystalView and again would recommend them over anything else.

I believe you'll find the red gets much brighter.

I'm going to do mine one day - perhaps do the sequential turn signals at the same time. But it's not high priority.
