PostSubject: Series I (SC) Cams   Series I (SC) Cams EmptyTue Sep 02, 2008 8:59 pm

After hearing all the SII guys on youtube put big cams in their cars and the sound and power it comes with it i was wondering how difficult and at what costs would it take to get a custom grind cam for my car. Do you guys know any places that does this kind of work and what kind of lift would you guys reccomend on the cam with my current mods. this is something i really want to do but not to sure where to start?
thanks

something that kind of sounds like this gtp.

I'd start with the SII vendors such as ZZP and Intense, and inquire about a custom cam for your SI. Do you have any idea on the cost? It won't be cheap, if they'll do it at all. They would also be best suited for recommending specs to go along with the mod level you are planning. Personally, I doubt it will be cost effective.

Comp cams will do a custom grind for you. Also down in austrilia they have cams for the Series one . But only the N/A model. But its something.

yah i think i might give ZZP, intense, and comp cams a try see what they say and the price if they do agree on doing a custom grind cam. All i plan on doing to my SI is the cam and some roller rockers then ill proably with my current mods call it quits, i just really like the sound and power that comes from a cam. Thats what i also figured that it wont be cheap and i might have someone install it for me, but im still leaning on doing that myself and maybe with a friend too thats mechanically inclined to help me out. But any estimates on how much you think it will cost.

A ZZP cam runs $299. I wouldn't be surprised it you had to double that. What about new valve springs? That will depend on how radical of a cam you run. They would have to tell you if you'd need stronger springs or not.

thats true maybe i should get new roller rockers from ZZP along with new valve springs to support a nice big cam to get the sound and power i want. the series I is so difficult, and im also taking into mind do i really want to put all this money into a engine thats about to be 14 years old and dosent have that great of perfomance potential, but i do think it would be kinda of cool to have a series I producing 300 or about 300 horsepower. but does anyone have the specs for a series I cam so i can kinda of get an idea.

Which Eaton is in the 97-99 Rivs? I'm under the impression it's the M90.

Please specify at least year/make/model in your signature. If not in your sig, add it to your post with _every_ question. Given your username, I'm assuming a '95 Park Ave, which probably means the S1 3800? Is it S/C?

I thought Comp Cams _used_ to make one, but not sure about the S1 parts.

If it was a '95 with a Series I it was S/C. The '95 NA motor was a Series II.

Those grinds listed were from the now defunct 'seriesoneperformance.com'. Hopefully they are for a series I 3800. Since the site/supplier is no more, we can only assume what motor they were for.

AA, you made that original post, any input - do you recall what engine the cam specs you quoted were from? N/A or S/C engine?

I'm surprised I'm the only one replying to this thread in the first place. I really have no experience modding an SI engine.

I know there is a bonneville performance forum somewhere, maybe BillBoost37 can give us that link again, it has a whole bunch of SI followers who have more information. Sorry I haven't been more help.

I don't know of the thread I posted info about Series I cams. Naturally, I don't really know much about Series I parts. Maybe some Series I owners can help.

I know that SeriesOnePerformance.com is no longer selling parts, including cams.

I've merged this with another thread, please read from top.

We had to both use the U.S. flag to overpower the British one that was flying around here...

If "I" posted anything about seriesoneperformance, it was only to point someone to the site. I know NOTHING about Series I engines or cams.
