Rear pillars loose? Empty
PostSubject: Rear pillars loose?   Rear pillars loose? EmptySun Sep 09, 2012 1:57 pm

This is mostly curiosity, but has anyone else ever had this issue? My rear pillar upholstery like to (on a nearly daily basis) just fall out of the pillars, just sort of dangling there until I pop em back in. Loose or overused pushpins? No idea why. Certainly would like to fix though haha

Never had that happen. Have you ever removed them in the past? Sometimes the plastic clips can break or wear out - they're made to snap in just once.

I personally haven't but I'm assuming the last owner did at some point. Are these clips fairly generic or is it best to source them through Gm parts online and the like? I also need a pushpin button for under the lip of my dash as one is missing and am hunting for an extra doorhandle plug (interior handle, where the handle is bolted to the door) All reasonably little things yet all seemingly difficult to find dunce

I've purchased the under dash clips from the GM parts desk. They're not too bad - might have a couple extra I could mail you. The door handle plug might be a bit more difficult. The pillar fasteners might be something commonly used in many vehicles. Don't know that they look like, and not taking mine down to find out! Maybe snap a few pics and let us see what you're up against.

Haha don't butcher your pillars! From lookin at mine I can only assume they were removed to fix the rear heating strips as that's all I really see access to. And looks like they've been loose for quite some time as the paint is a little rough around the holes....

From the looks of it they're common but seem to be a bit long. That's why they may be popping back out on you. You can either check the length and cut the ones you have or find one's that aren't as long.

I'll be stopping by the local ace to find some shorter, stiffer clips if cutting em shorter doesn't seem to hold in.
And Aaron, if you do by chance have a dash pin or two you could mail my way, just let me know how I could compensate you tongue

The suggestions above are helpful. I want to add that it is often the case that private and dealer body shops have the right clips as "shop supplies" and if you show up at one and ask about how to fasten it right they just might give you the clips, or sell them to you for very short money (say, a sixpack or 2 of root beer in a styrofoam cooler, on ice) wink -
