Brake pedal clicks Empty
PostSubject: Brake pedal clicks   Brake pedal clicks EmptyThu Apr 04, 2019 8:20 pm

Hi everybody,
When I push my brake pedal down at a certain point I hear a click. Would a faulty brake switch make this noise?

...you will have to get on the floorboards and look; it could be the pivot needs attention, it could be some wiring or connector is hitting the lever when you press the pedal, it could be an issue with the booster. No way to tell from here.

Go look.

I understand.

There's no typical reason for that brake pedal mechanism to click when brakes are applied. My guess is it will be pretty obvious when you are under there. You may need to remove the panel under the drivers side dash to see all of the mechanism operating. If your emergency brakes will hold the car, you may want to put it in park and idle it with the e-brakes on so you can lay on the floor and push the pedal with your hands until it clicks. If it clicks way up high in the travel it might be the switch. If low in the travel it's the linkage or something in the way.

If you pull the panel and it does not click anymore you've kind of found the problem, the under-dash panel is fiddly to install.

You may find that the wiring harnesses are not fastened where they are supposed to be - there is a tech at the GM dealer I sometimes go to who does pretty good work BUT will leave the wires hanging all over the place. I understand why he left them hanging, they were not really hurting anything and it was difficult to get the plastic panel they were loomed to back up on the steering column bracket where it belonged. I think it took me the better part of 1/2 hour to get that thing back in place and the service manual drawings were of marginal help. It made all kinds of stupid annoying noises as the wires and connectors brushed up against things as I drove. Refitting everything was like working a jigsaw puzzle with no starting picture but it was worth it because the stupid noises ceased.

I appreciate all the great information so I know where to tell my guy to look. I'm smart enough to know I'm not handy LOL. Right now I'm actually performing a water test meaning I left it out of the garage and I'm praying what I fixed worked.
