ZZP aluminum transmission pan

Anybody have this done to their Riv?  Or know anything about it?  I've read that it cools the tranny about 20*.

Odd they wouldn't mention it in their listing, if it was a documented fact.

$189.00... I'd love to see the dyno tests for that mod.

I saw people talking about it on another board. Don't remember if it was clubgp or regalgs. Said it was a great mod and he runs about 20* cooler now.

I just got my car towed away AGAIN and paid 150 to get it back. In my current prospective, it's not a bad buy lol.

There is a guy who said he used to get 195-202* temps and now its around 170-180.

Zoomer posted that most people claim 20-25* drop in temps.

How much does a tranny cooler do?

Seems a bit overpriced. Perhaps manufacturing costs are high, keeping the price high.

I just got a used pan in near perfect condition for $30. Really hard to justify another $150 for a "better" pan.

I agree, they need some dyno results on this.

I dought dyno test would prove anything..because the point is its aluminum with the lil fins..which air rushes past an disapates heat...need a temp guage..an go for a drive...

Theres another thread I found about it. One guy on there says his dropped 20* too.

I have deeper pans on both of my Turbos, more fluid is always a good thing. This is my first wrong wheel drive  so if a better pan can help keep tranny temps down it is cheap insurance, I am meeting a friend on Saturday who does tranny work at a Big GM place so maybe he can shed light on the subject.

Talked to my tranny guy, he told me the 20 degree drop if true is only needed when the car is being raced alot. I asked about a bigger pan, he told me that the extra fluid would be nice but it would cause the pan to ride low and would scrap alot.

The guys who have them said they have had no problem with the tranny scraping.

I think if it helps with the car being raced a lot it would help the same for someone going to the track twice a year? I'll give it a try once I have everything else I need. Its about #7 on my mod list now.

The bigger pan scraping was not meant to be the zz one, It was a generic question asked about a bigger pan.

What I would question, is whether that claimed 20deg tranny temp drop has any significant positive impact on performance or durability. Not say it doesn't, just wondering if anyone has an answer?

Anyone have any experience with this pan?  It claims it aids cooling, and comes with a drain plug.  Kind of pricey, but the drain plug would be nice.  And if it actually makes some benefit in cooling anywhere near as well as an aux transmission cooler, that might be attractive as well.

A quick Google for "zzp transmission pan review" did turn up a few reports of ~15 degree drops in temp, but

Looks awsome but $200 bucks? beaucoup bukz! All I did to mine is instal a Jegs Trans cooler with integral fan and a brass drain plug.whole deal only cost me $110 or so installed. I mean,it's nice having a cool alu trans pan but the steel one is stupid light and works well with a trans cooler.I say a tad overpriced.jmo.

It's a great idea. I'd like to have one, but it's not worth the $$$. A trans cooler works better for less money. However, this is easier to install, and less likely to leak or fail. But I can think of SO many other (better) ways to improve the performance of a Riviera for $200+.


A common search issue: 3 letter words (pan) do not produce hits. I found it by searching for "transmission".

A drill and a $5 drain plug from NAPA does quite nicely in the stock pan. An external cooler in front of the radiator will make a much bigger difference and for a lot less $ IMO.

One downside, beyond high price, is that there is no longer a magnetic pickup in the pan.  Although one could install a magnetic drain plug.

For the money, it's useless IMO. Spend the $200 on something else. An external trans cooler is cheaper.
