DHP Powrtuner help Empty
PostSubject: DHP Powrtuner help   DHP Powrtuner help EmptySun Jun 09, 2013 3:37 pm

Hey guys,

I bought a DHP Powrtuner with a Keyspan USB adapter on this forum a little less than a year ago. Well now that I am out of college for the summer, I'm ready to tune my 1996 Riviera. I have an older Dell laptop I purchased recently with a Windows XP operating system to work with the older software from DHP.

In saying that, I can't get my tuner to read the PCM from my Riviera, nor my dad's 2003 Regal. I selected Com Port 3 because that's the only com port where it actually tries to read the cable. All the other's immediately say unable to communicate with interface. However, I've tried Com Port 3 on both baud rates and the loading bar indicates that it is trying to read the cable, but after about 10 seconds, it also says unable to communicate with PCM. I'm getting pretty frustrated because I've tried about every combination possible.

AA, I know you use DHP. Have you ever experienced this before? Anybody else with DHP experience, I'd really appreciate your help in figuring out the problem. I tried registering for the forums but the administrator's are no longer accepting new members, so you guys are all I've got!

Thanks,
Jordon

Something is set up wrong. I had the same problem trying to get it to work on Windows XP. I eventually gave up.

With the suggestion of the IT guy at work, I loaded the program onto my laptop with Windows 7, installed Framework 1.1, and then set the P-tuner to launch in Compatibility mode with Windows 2000 (Windows 7 has that option). It worked on the very first try.

You may need to make sure that your OS is ONLY running with the 1.1 Framework. Anything beyond that won't read the program.

Like Scott says - Key factor - .NET Framework 1.1 is the ONLY .NET that can be installed on that machine. Start there and report back.

What do you mean exactly by "read the PCM". If you mean read and save a copy of the OEM program, I've never been able to do that either. All I've ever done are full and partial writes, based on the DHP 1.5 BIN. Have you tried to upload/write a BIN file to your PCM?

Really? That sucks man lol. I read and saved my .bin no problem. How come you can't?

I think he means it won't register? What he's describing is exactly what my problem was. It won't register and gets stuck in "trial" mode

Thanks for the help guys. I'll try it again tomorrow and report back. AA, I'm definitely not to the point of uploading a file to my PCM.

I hooked up the tuner to the OBD2 port and the keyspan adapter to my laptop's USB port. Then I chose Com Port 3 and selected my baud rate and that's as far as I got. After about ten seconds, it said unable to communicate with PCM or retrieve data.

Not sure. I could do everything DHP advertized, except save the stock BIN. Actually it saved, but the file was unusable. One of the employees at DHP emailed me a stock '98 BIN, so I was good.

When you think about it, there's really no need to save your BIN as long as you have a stock one in your possession (can upload if needed). Everything I need to do tuningwise comes from uploading. Saving your BIN is someing you might do one time if you don't have a stock BIN.

You're right, but if you ever try and tune something other than your '98, you're screwed. Good for you, bad for other people lol

Yeah, that's been my excuse when people ask me for free tunes. I'm not in that business!

(I did help Dave G with his, but he supplied me a BIN to start with)
