| I'm familiar with MAFF tuning, but not with VE tables. Derek, you've played with VE, right? Where does one start with this kind of thing? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| download eddie's table modifier. all you have to do is scan certain parameters, import them into the modifier, then export the changes back into your bin file. then repeat until desired. it has a maf table modifier too. | |

| Man, the stock VE table is so far off. The VE table is the beginning point of your fueling calculations. You want it right... because you want it right!
Seriously, though. I started out using DHP/Eddie's Table Modifier thingy to get in the ballpark, but take it slow. One fuel trim cell at a time. Follow the instructions from the 'Jerry's Tuning Page' site and you'll get close. I am at the point now where I need to do the final massaging by hand to get everything just right. But I have an old history with VE tuning, so I'm a bit of a perfectionist and want it just so.

| Is the VE tune a "set-it-and-forget-it" thing, or does it change with mods, fuel type, seasonal changes, etc.? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| It does change with mods, but only a little bit with each mod. Add up all your mods and you need a new VE table. Change one thing and you won't see a huge change.
The word is that seasonal changes are only for MAF, not VE. I haven't played with mine long enough to be able to tell for sure yet.

| Thanks. I plan to start playing with VE soon. | Yep, and Jerry's Tune site explains how to use Eddie's Table Modifier in a way that works for him. The part I got confused on (didn't read close enough) was that he recommended only tuning for 1 or 2 fuel trim cells at a time. I was tuning all fuel trim cells and couldn't get my idle or decels close at all. limiting your adjustments to a specific trim cell at a time lets you get very close to dead nuts.
Don't worry too much about decel, that isn't important and takes care of itself. The problem is that under decel, you get very very innacurate O2 sensor readings because there's only a trickle of air getting through the system. You'll go crazy trying to tune decel. Not worth it.

| How are the fuel cells divided/structured? I assume it's by MAP values, but which ones form the boundaries, say between cells 2 & 3? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| I don't know. It must come from MAP vs RPM but I don't know what else they would factor in.
Funny you should revive this thread now. I just hooked up and started working on my tune again after having left it alone for two months or so.

| I reset all my MAF numbers to stock the other day. Need to scan, then tune my VE. I think I have enough to do that, but I hear you have to do the cells one at a time. It's hard to do that when you don't know where the cell boundaries are! One of the tuning guides I have suggests doing every 10th MAP value at a particular RPM. I think that's a clue. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
