| Subject: Leaking A/C Compressor, what all should be changed whil at it? Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:20 pm | |
| So I took the 95 in to recheck the A/C after replacing the compressor clutch and an initial recharge, and sure enough the compressor is leaking. This really isn't a surprise as the compressor makes an audible "hum" while engaged, that one can really only hear in the cabin. And you can feel it engage at speed, so it clearly has issues.
So, it's time for a new compressor.
While browsing through Rock Auto, there are several compressor options and some notes about also replacing the dryer, orifice tube, etc. The other parts beyond the compressor are pretty inexpensive, so no big deal. But I thought I'd ask what brand compressor is recommended and what other parts I might as well replace while we're doing the compressor.
DENSO Part # 4719152 {#1136066} With Clutch OE recommended replacement part. $311
ACDELCO Part # 1522139 {Click Info Link for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers01136408, 01136514, 1520036, 1520051, 89018908, 89019208, 89019360} A/C Compressor INCLS O-RINGS, With clutch, H6 $254
There is also a "Four Seasons" brand for $254, but I've never heard of them.
Thanks Al

| I changed what you mentioned ... - al_roethlisberger wrote:

Thanks Al I did it on my high mileage Silver Arrow and also flushed the system, not sure if it was necessary or not but did it anyway? I didn't look for any great compressor since it has over 200K miles, I just looked for around a year warranty. It has been on for about a year and a half now and no problems. They are easier to change from underneath that's for sure, another reason a lift comes in handy. | |

| Thanks, Rock Auto also has a Delphi unit for about $201. Delphi makes many of the GM/Delco parts, but not sure if this is a reman or not. I'll probably have to call. They only have about four of the Delphi units left, so they seem to be some sort of closeout.
I just don't know that much about A/C compressor manufacturers to know if one is head/shoulders above the other. Since the car only has 51k miles, I would like to get one that has a good track record.
Thanks. Al

| I would use the Delphi compressor, it would be close to factory and should work well. I would just make sure it comes complete with the clutch. | |
