Does anybody know how to remove the Headlamp switch from the dash fascia on a 96 Riv? I think it turns counter clockwise, but this thing seems like it's "locked" in some way and I don't want to use too much force in fear that I might break the dash or switch. Any advice would be welcome.

I assume you have the entire dash faceplate off already?

Yes. I want to use the switch with the dash off in order to check the lights in a another radio so they can be replaced before I install it. I'd rather not struggle with the dash to do that.

It does, in fact, just twist out. Which way, I can't remember. You may have to apply a little more force than you want to get it to move....

Not that I can remember. AND, I looked it up in Service Information. All it says is "twist"
Headlamp Switch Replacement (Buick) Removal Procedure 1. Remove the instrument panel (IP) cluster trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console. 2. Disconnect the headlamp switch electrical connector. 3. I can't remember which way it twists either, but I believe it is CCW facing the back side of the dash bezel.

Thanks, guys. After looking at it, one can see the switch IS locked. There are 3 keys on the dash that drop into slots on the switch. Evidently, the trick is to push the switch in, against the dash, compressing the foam rubber gasket, and THEN turn it CCW about 15 degrees. Presto!

FYI...and just to be clear, you are turning the WHOLE ASSEMBLY, from the back of the instrument cluster, not the little twiddle knob with the lightbulb nor turning anything from the front. Comes off easy-peasy, and the same with the traction control knob as well. Last thing you wanna do is break something.

I can attest to what Animator and EyeDoc have stated, had to replace mine last year and was way simpler than I thought to replace. Only annoying part is taking off the dash

I was able to easily swap out my switch without taking the fascia off. Remove the side panel in the driver's door well. Remove the single 7mm bolt holding the fascia. Pull up on the fascia to get some clearance, and remove the harness from the switch, twist the switch out and replace. Took me 15-20 minutes.

Thanks guys, instructions to twist off the dash panel worked perfect.
