Hello all,
Last year, I wouldn't have considered myself someone who enjoyed the grit of cars. But then I had to venture out into the world and buy my own. As luck would have it, it was a 97 Riviera. It's a fun car to drive. It's a really really fun car to drive.
But now things are going wrong with this beautiful machine, and I'm running headless trying to learn everything I can to keep it running.
I believe I'm the fourth or fifth owner of this car. And whomever owned it before me did some really dumb things to it. I'm here to fix it, and eventually be able to give advice of my own.

Welcome and good luck! There is some excellent reading here, start with the FAQ page and most of your questions and problems have probably been experienced by one of us at one time or another.

Best of all, keep enjoying your Riv!

Thank you sirs,
I bought the car for $1700, and immediately learned that there were many a problem with the car. Looking at some pics posted on the forums, I'm envious of the pristine condition of some of the cars.
The car I bought is not pristine, but I do want to make it so.
Final note, my nickname is River, which I had long before I knew how roomy an American Car is.
River, the new Riviera owner.
Irony is fun.

Just purchased a 1997 Riviera. Needed a dependable ride and this seems to fit the bill. Has 142000 miles on it. I am the third owner and the last one seemed to take care of this vehicle. Everything works in it except the fuel gauge which is reading funky now. Need to check this out, but with the help of this forum I have gotten a lot of good info on the matter. I belong to the Cummins Turbo Diesel forum as well, so I have unique vehicles to take care of.
