Matt's Tune Thread Empty
PostSubject: Matt's Tune Thread   Matt's Tune Thread EmptyThu Oct 23, 2014 11:19 am

I already have an alright tune from Abaddon, but I'm still seeing some knock @WOT. Here's today's log to show you what I mean:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/68e8355t5dfyfa9/10-23-14.csv?dl=0

Should I increase timing for this? I'm not as concerned about the knock at the top of second @WOT as I am the knock at around 60 with WOT. Ideally I would like to get rid of both, but for now the focus is on the knock at ~60.

That's the .csv file. We need the .bin file to open it.

The csv is my log, I was just hoping someone could look at it and tell me what I need to change in the bin. I can upload the bin here in a bit when I go back out to my car.

I think we had this issue last time. I couldn't get the log to open....

It won't even let me import it into PowerTuner. Like it doesn't recognize the file.

bro, if you cant get 20* of timing at WOT with 0 KR then your pulley is too small!

I highly recommend you go bigger pulley so you see 0 KR then scan and post again. You may lose torque but you will gain HP and durability.

"Should I increase timing for this?"
Increasing your timing with your current set up is a set up for disaster. You need to unload some boost asap and rescan.

Charlie is a pro now..... rolleyes

I tried importing it and placing it into the logs. Still doesn't show up. Try exporting it as an XML. I can probably read it then. I just got Office15 on this 'puter....

Did you change your WOT A/F ratio (PE)?? I certainly didn't set it to that. That's way rich IMO.

Definitely not.
Lines 2840-2870 or so - You are seeing 3-4 degrees of KR at WOT with only 12, 14 degrees of timing showing. There is also some LTFT there taking fuel away. You need to get your fuel trims straightened out so that you don't go into WOT with LTFT making a correction first. Don't worry about timing until the fuel trims are better.

Lines 3220-3240 - same as above. Less KR because you are in 1st and 2nd gear so the load is a little lighter. Lots of LTFT before you go into WOT.

Can you add O2 Volts to your scan?

Sure, I leave class in a little over half an hour so I'll get another scan of the drive home. I changed the units from metric to imperial just now because I forgot to change them when I installed DHP.

Can you switch to a 3.5" pulley until you get the fueling improved? That will help a lot. You may find you actually go a little faster or the same because of the lack of KR.

PostSubject: Re: Matt's Tune Thread   Matt's Tune Thread EmptyThu Oct 23, 2014 1:32 pm

My main concern is the PE A/F. It's set to 10.9 and 10.8. That's EXACTLY when the KR starts. Look at lines 2850 and 2851. The KR was 0 until it hit 10.9 A/F. I bet you're drowning the engine in fuel. I'd set that to ~11.2 or ~11.3 and see what happens.

EDIT: Again starting at line 3222. As soon as it hits 10.9, the KR starts....

I dont think Matt has a wideband. I believe the A/F values we see are commanded and not real.

The only thing I would do here is put on a bigger pulley. A 3.6 sounds right. Get 0 KR then up your timing until you are seeing around 20 at WOT.

Until you get a wideband installed, i wouldnt mess with PE A/F. You can dial the fuel trims in via MAF table, tho.

im no pro, just a noob learning along the way. study

PostSubject: Re: Matt's Tune Thread   Matt's Tune Thread EmptyThu Oct 23, 2014 2:26 pm

That A/F # is exactly that, commanded. It's the A/F ratio that the PCM runs the engine at based on what it's programmed to. Mine locks in at 11.5 at WOT. That's what I have it set for. All other times it's ~14.7. His is hitting 10.5 at the low. That's rich as hell, which is where the KR starts. Every single other cell in that log that isn't 10.9 or lower is 0 KR.

You're right. Without a Wideband, you cannot tune perfectly. However, based on those #'s alone (and the O2), you can get it pretty close.

Remember, under WOT, STFT and LTFT mean nothing. I'm willing to bet that his O2 is going to be somewhere along the lines of 950.....too rich.

You can absolutely induce KR running too rich.....

Here's the scan from the trip home. I'll run back out and get the bin once my laptop gets a good charge in it.

Yeah, O2s are around 900, but without a wideband it's kinda meaningless. Also, for some reason you got a whole bunch of "--" for some of the columns.

It would be helpful if you go into the scan before you post the log and filter out, say, anything with tp% less than 10 so we don't have to scroll through a whole bunch of idling etc. When you don't do that, I open in Excel, filter by TP% column and search for anything above 60. That brings me to the right lines, and I can cancel the filter and scroll around from there once I know what row numbers I'm looking for.

Need to review the bin and see why it's calling for so rich. Not sure when I'll have a chance.

I had a similar problem with my '98, always going pig-rich on WOT. I can't remember if I ever solved it, I sold it to my brother and he never tracked the car much after that, so we never worked out the rest of the bugs.

PostSubject: Re: Matt's Tune Thread   Matt's Tune Thread EmptyThu Oct 23, 2014 4:29 pm

Think I found it. The '96 is a little bit of a different breed than the rest. The VE table is set to a flat .8 bone stock....ha. The AE enrichment table was jacked (my fault). It was wayyyyy rich. I fixed it. Also, the '96 doesn't have a base PE A/F ratio to adjust. I was thinking of a '97-above apparently.

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=EEBECD9F11F19D50!127&authkey=!AOwFdsJ0Vcft30k&ithint=file%2cbin

EDIT: FYI, I fixed the AE table, and added a ramped ~4% to the top 10% of the MAF table. Let's see if that fixes it. I was only 2% above stock as it was. The middle of the MAF table was bone stock....and still is.

Nobody changed the timing Charlie. It's bone stock.

I know you're an advocate of increasing timing, but you'd be scared to ever drive your car again if you scanned it bone stock.....

Base timing advance on a '96 is only about 12-13* at WOT ~5500rpms.
