65 Riv GS engine production code stamp Empty
PostSubject: 65 Riv GS engine production code stamp   65 Riv GS engine production code stamp EmptyFri Nov 30, 2018 9:21 am

I am about to purchase my first 65 Riviera GS. The engine production code is stamped L X167. The L is over 2 inches from the X. Does anyone know if this is normal or fake stamping.

I would say that is most likely normal. I know the 67-76 350 and 400/430/455 engine codes were like that. The letters were stamped separately, not together. LX is a 425 CID. More info below.

This is a 1971 Buick 350 with code TD

See how far apart they are? Sometimes, the letter(s) are partially obscured by the head or gasket.

The
Most confusing is the L is over two inches away from the X167. The L is not a clear crisp stamp like the others. It would be helpful if I could include a photo. Also on this 65 are the 2 carbs with a metal sticker on each throat that reads Carter Competition. Look on the side of the carb and raised factory letters read WEBER, so its not an original Carter carb.

I also need to measure the exhaust pipe dia. to help determine if its was original GS. It does have the Gran Sport emblems in the right ( early production ) location and on the glove box.

Go over to www.v8buick.com and join. The guys over there in the Nailhead Forum can answer your questions better than I.
