It's a gash where the metal is separated.

My guess it it was wrecked and pulled. A lot of times body panels will pop back into shape if they are not hit too hard.

Probably was repaired. Do I need to have this welded so it will not spread or can I just cover it and forget about it? It's on the inside of the door and took me a year and a half to see it.
