Not at all. I was thinking about using it as a transmission cooler, in the summer it'd help.

Albert, If you have ever looked at a factory in radiator transmission cooler, you would realize what a joke they really are. There is literally nothing to them, I think they have more value in bringing the temperature of the ATF up especially in the winter cold.

I think it is an excellent idea to use that cooler in addition to the radiator cooler in series. IMO, it will work great.
This is what I use on my 70 GS,

I'm sure it would work great in the Riv as well. If it's still there Saturday I'll likely snag it. A better idea might be one of the stacked plate coolers b/c they don't pass oil through all the cooling fins when cold due to viscosity. BUT I have not figured out where I could mount such a thing, in comparison mounting this one is kind of obvious. And about the factory cooler, +1 that. A small heat exchanger in an end tank.

| I bought and installed an external transmission cooler for my Riv 10 years ago and got an in-line thermostat from the same company.
I still have the trans cooler with all the paperwork. The thermostat I ended up using on my Harley engine oil cooler. Very well made unit and serviceable also.
I bought Tru-Cool Max trans cooler (Mini Max) and what they called a Remote External Thermal Bypass (thermostat)
I bought it all from Makco Distributing, Inc. 4255 Bryson Blvd. Florence, AL 35630 Ph# 256-767-2839
With the extra fittings needed it all cost me $145.00 back in 2010 That included shipping and handling fees.
I removed the cooler and thermostat before getting rid of the car. Still have the cooler if your interested. I'm sure I can find a box for the cooler to ship to you. Price will be right. just want to find someone that has a need. I mounted it in front of the A/C condenser. IIRC I ran it in series with the existing radiator cooler. That's why I ended up buying the extra fittings needed. I know it would be easier to run it straight from the trans output and input. But that is also why I bought the thermostat for it. Can't remember why I chose to run it in series with the radiator tank. ????? I'm somewhat brain dead these days.
Anyway, if your interested get a hold of me for any more info and you'll get it for a steal.
P/N 4920-1 for the cooler.
If you need more info PM me or email me as I'm not on the forum that often. I'm sure I can find a box to ship you the cooler if your interested.

Rick You could plumb it ahead of the radiator to pre-cool the fluid then let the radiator bring the fluid up to op temp, or plumb it after the cooler to shave 30-some degrees off the fluid temp after it reached radiator temp. SO... I guess the question is, how did you plumb it in?
