| So I picked up my 95 Riviera from the shop getting some work done to it. Following behind it as my Fiancé drove it I saw the break lights were out. The window one was working but the main ones were off. I took it straight to another shop ( my main one was closed ) and they did an Eval of it. Come to find out, it seems the breaks run through the hazard switch?! The guy fiddled with the hazard switch some and the lights came back on and are working for now, but he suggests a new switch as the switch is really Stuck.. it's basically worn out and very hard to move. This likely means replacing the entire directional stalk however for the life of me... I CANNOT FIND ONE!!!!! I have dug into every website I can find looking and being a discontinued part no one has any. I'm down to checking Boneyards on Monday but I'm not holding my breath around here because it also seems the 95-96 Riviera is only compatible with themselves.
Can anyone at all help me find a new directional assembly? I have money not a massive ton I'm just an average guy but I'm willing to pay for a new stalk if one can be tracked down. I'm getting really close to getting this Riviera fully restored. I just need new rear breaks. To replace seals in the motor ( it has multiple weeping going on but nothing bad ) and then get her painted and that's it.

My guess is it's stiff from non-use, not worn out, and if you cleaned it with a plastic-safe electronic cleaner like Radio Shack's "TV Tuner Cleaner" ( do a web search to find the CRC equivalent). CRC QD Electronic Cleaner, CRC Lectra Motive and DeOxit come to mind. The problem then becomes getting the cleaner on the actual electric contacts in the switch - I don't know how to do that but I bet if you take the clamshell off you can figure it out. If you don't have a factory service manual set yet, now would be a great time to get one.

| Hey, I actually signed up for this group because I’m going through the exact same thing! Were you ever able to locate a new part or did you figure out a workaround? | |

| I Finally found 2 on Google. Both were near 300 bucks. I bought both, only 1 worked. I got the other refunded. There are literally ZERO out there unless you find them in a salvage yard. Most online don't want to bother trying to look because they feel it's not worth their effort. My best advice, Find a parts Riviera and buy the whole fing car. | |

| Hard to believe we're at that point, but it is a 25 year old car. And yet, it's still the brand new Riviera in the magazines to me - does anyone know what a magazine is? | |

The hazard switch is wired with the brake lights so that (1) you still get brake lights if you are running the hazard flashers (2) if you have cruise control engaged, and you turn on the hazards then cruise control will disengage and not re-engage until you turn the hazards off and are driving faster than ~30 MPH.
