| remove the plastic pins that hold the inner fender (black plastic) over the area where the light is, then reach up and replace the bulb. The socket twists or pulls out IIRC. Easier to do if you lay on the ground and look up at it (wear safety glasses to keep the dirt out of your eyes). After you've replaced it once you probably won't need to look at it at all to replace one next time, except maybe to remove/replace the inner fender because the holes for those little pastic pins don't line up

| Should be 5 total (per side). 1 for the cornering light, 2 for the big yellow side marker on the bumper, and 2 in the rear tail light assembly.

| Yes, there are 2 bulbs in there. One 3057 and one 194, which is right behind the the 3057, closer to the door. Look through the marker (if it's clear enough) and you can see them both. | |

In the manual it says only the 3057 is the turn signal bulb.... because the 194 (you can use a 168 in a pinch) is the "side marker" bulb. So the manual says only the 3057s are the turn signals. The side marker bulbs are wired in such a way that they blink opposite the turn signals... ...but don't confuse them with the turn signals. . Albertj

Doesn't that make them part of the turn signals???? It blinks right???? EDIT: It's also wired into the turn signal circuit....connects directly to the Left turn signal indicator on the dash, and also the Turn Signal Switch.

EDIT: It's also wired into the turn signal circuit....connects directly to the Left turn signal indicator on the dash, and also the Turn Signal Switch. Depends on how you care to define 'turn signal.' They are part of the turn signals if your definition is that turn signals are what blinks if you use the car's installed signalling device to indicate a turn or emergency (as in emergancy flashers). They are not if you use the definition in the manual. Most likely they are defined as such in the manual because turn signal lights must comply with technical ( not legal) standards stipulating intensity, horizontal and vertical visibility, and minimum illuminated surface area to ensure that they can be seen at all relevant angles, don't dazzle others, and are conspicuous in the dark as well as full direct sunlight. The side marker lamps aren't visible from the front of the car, and as such fail the technical "test" for what is a turn signal. They are helpful, and do serve a purpose if they flash to indicate a turn -- GM has wired side markers to so flash I think for decades, in the USA they first became common in the late 1960's. For those of you curious about automotive lighting, you may want to look at danielsternlighting.com or at the wikipedia page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_lighting which has 73 references from NHTSA and other authoritative sources. It's actually 7 per side. In the back lens, there is a 194 bulb between each pair of the bigger bulbs. Easy to miss. Last time I replaced one of the rear bulbs, I spotted the 194's, and they were both out. There is also a 194 on each side of the rear bumper, the red marker lights. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

You are correct, but the 194's in the rear don't blink.

You are correct, but the 194's in the rear don't blink. You are correct. Just thought I'd mention the 194's. I bet a lot of guys don't even realize that they are there. I sure didn't. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| And of course with the hassle of removing/replacing the fragile rear lamp assembly, which can also cause a leak if you don't put it back perfectly, I recommend replacing all the rear bulbs if you have it apart... with the LL (long life) type. | |
