95 smoking??? Empty
PostSubject: 95 smoking???   95 smoking??? EmptyFri Aug 17, 2007 1:59 pm

i cleaned the throttle body last night and replaced it. This morning when i went to drive, it started to smoke under the hood. I think there was coolant leaking onto exhaust. Anyone know what i might have done? Just looking for ideas before i go home and troubleshoot the problem.thanks.

Did you replace the TB gasket with a new one?

Usually light smoking is caused by something (oil, coolant, rubber/plastic) spilled onto the exhaust manifold or crossover pipe, which is directly below the TB. If it goes away, no worries. If it persists, you need to find out what's causing it.

See if you can spot where the smoke is coming from, and check the TB for leaking coolant. Perhaps you didn't seal it up and it's seeping from the bottom. Do you smell coolant?

yes, i replaced the gasket w/ a new one.

i have NOT examined the source of the leak, but it does smell like coolant. does coolant flow thru the TB as well?

I would think so. It does on the Series II supercharged.

Yes it does on the series 1. Is it leaking out or is your engine ingesting coolant?

update...
when i checked it out, the wiring harness that connects to the airbox was unplugged. I had pulled it to clean my filter and forgot to plug it back in. I re-connected it and cleaned the smoky area (near exhaust and TB) and everything was fine afterwards. i'm not exactly sure what the issue was,but its resolved. thanks folks.
