| I was thinking today how cool it would be to run a maybe 6-12 inch tube off the throttle body then a 90 degree bend going straight up, cut a hole in the hood, throw an air filter on the tubing, then find some sort of scoop to put over it.. any thoughts | |

| That is a very interesting idea that I hadn't thought of. I'm sure it's possible to do. Would be cool to have a scoop on the driver side only, too. Very unique, and functional. But would it look good? At least it would look like you mean business! _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| yeah definitely man, I think as long as it wasn't some huge ridiculous snorkel, it may look fine, but i'm not sure.. i'll have to take a look around, kinda sketchy on the idea of making a hole in my hood haha | |

| It's going to be next to impossible to keep a hood scoop from looking ghetto on a Riv. | |

I'd like some functional vents like that on my riv. Would there be any danger with rain and stuff with a vent wide open like that?

| IF you can ignore the car...I used to want something like this scoop, but the hood is recessed for this particular stlye scoop. I don't care for the look as much as I used to. But you need something subtle like this. IMO. | |

| yeah exactly, i would just want a small vent right over where the filter would be.. not many functional vents/scoops out there like that | |

| Ive got a polished hood and I thought long and hard about the best way to work some sort of scoop into the mix. First off our hood is not typical in the sense that it is hollow. SO you could put a scoop or vent anywhere on the hood and easily plug your intake into the hood cavity. Heres the rub, on hot days your hood is heated by the sun and your engine, so your intake may just become a glorified hood cooling system. That is a situation where the FWI is prolly just plain better. So I dont know....If I could find a really cool looking aluminum scoop I would mount it offset on the hood right above the TB, Problem is I have not seen somthing worthy. | |

| What the heck, just buy a spare hood from a junkyard, install one of these: http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/aeroscoops.htm and swap parts/hood at the track. | |

| What do you think about mounting this in the Riv (the ram air duct, not the pulleys which I know won't work). It seems like there could be some clearance issues on inclines, especially with a lowered car. But I think if the fenderwell plastic is pulled or cut out (you have to do this with a regular FWI, right?), there might be room to snake the tubing all the way down. Then the only issue is whether the filter box will mate up to our SC intake or not, and whether it will physically fit in that location. Uhm and a left hand duct would be good too. Thoughts? Edit - Hey, I found some veedub guys thinking the same thing - Link Here's an interesting idea - - Quote :
- The idea behind it is somewhat common in the MK4 forum. They gut out the OEM airbox and they put a 3" pipe from the bottom of the airbox to the bumper air scoop:
Of course, they bore out the opening on the scoop so that it will allow more air to "ram in". I don't know where you would put that on a Riv though or if it would even be adequate, even with the whole cut out more.
