Mirror switch-a-roo?? Empty
PostSubject: Mirror switch-a-roo??   Mirror switch-a-roo?? EmptyTue Nov 13, 2007 5:52 am

I have a 96'er. I would like to upgrade to the Rear-View mirror that has the compass built in(98-99??) as well as the more advanced auto-dimmer. My auto-dimmer blows. The vehicle behind me must be right on my ass for it to "Dim"/ turn aqua colored. By then I'm blind!!shocked Just wondering if it will work? Also, can the passenger side mirror auto-dim like the drivers? Is that an option, or was it an option on the 97-99? I like how the drivers side does that.
Thanks

maybe yours is on its way out. i too have a 96 and it works well. it is dark green in color. ebay sometimes has the compass mirrors, but the electro-chromatic mirrors are harder to find.
good luck

oh, and i dont believe any of them had passenger tinting. just heated on both sides for the 97+

PostSubject: Re: Mirror switch-a-roo??   Mirror switch-a-roo?? EmptyTue Nov 13, 2007 8:39 pm

I always keep my mirror "on" even in daylight...the button is all pushed in and the greenlight inside it is on. I never really have a problem at night, my drivers side mirror has gotten discolored and like brownish, I',m not really sure what happened to it. The color is off on it.

Edit: the mirror itselft, not the housing itself, is discolored....any thoughts guys?

No, my windows are not tinted....yet. I also have the driver side mirror "Brown colored" thing going on. I'm not sure whats up with the inside mirror?? I would really like to have the upgraded mirror, not sure if it is interchangable?

The sensing mechanism or the fluid (likely) goes bad over time, so the mirror goes into "dim mode" and looks yellow or brown. Mine did this at around 30k miles. When the fluid actually leaks out, the color leaves the mirror, and it goes back to clear, although probably cloudy. It's more prone to leaking in very hot weather, and you'll notice it because it happens slowly, making a distinct line across the mirror. Mine started last year, and now is about 1/4 way down.

Mine is doing just that(line). Well, looks like I need to replace it. Will the mirror with the compass fit?

I was referring to the side mirror. Usually not a problem with the rearview, but it can happen. I don't see why a compass mirror wouldn't fit.

might want to take alook at the mirrors in the JCWhitney catalog.

Might want to contact Ed Morad and get used ones.
