| Subject: FAQ: Side Mirror Problems (heated, auto-dimming, tilt) Thu Oct 18, 2007 1:28 pm | |
| Anyone know what years the driver side mirror came with the auto dimming feature? My '98 has it, but what about '95-97?
And what years was heating available in the driver mirror? Was there ever a Riviera driver mirror that's heated but not auto dimming (like the passenger side is on mine)?
Are the Riviera's mirrors shared with any other cars? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| I think our mirrors are ours alone. If you want to have a heart attack, try witnessing your 2yr old son reach up and hang on the mirror with both feet in the air.... | |

| my 96 has auto-dim, but not heated. of course it has been in FL since it was made so i dont know if it was an option that the original buyer opted out of, or if it wasnt introduced until 1997. i will have to check the brochure to see.
i see a lot of cars daily and i dont know of any other car with mirrors like ours. if any did, i would think the aurora would. why the question? Aaron, did you take one off today!?! _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | "quote: If you want to have a heart attack, try witnessing your 2yr old son reach up and hang on the mirror with both feet in the air.... "Looks like he's going for it in your avatar! Yikes!!! I'm wondering because my auto-dim stuff is slowly leaking out. I like the heating idea, so I'd like to replace with a non-dimming heated driver mirror from a salvage yard. My passenger side (heated only) is holding up very well. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| My '95 is auto dimming, but not heated. It is a southern car (SC) so maybe it wasn't necessary for the original owner??? | |

| I'm 99% sure the Aurora uses the same mirror. I think Carroll Shelby used it on a sports car he built in the 90's but good luck finding one of those | |

| If you're referring to the Series I, I actually saw one driving through my neighborhood last year. Didn't notice the mirrors, though. | Those cars were so awesome. From what I've read, they're old-school muscle/supercar, hard to drive, no traction control or ABS, easy to loose control, but ridiculously fast in a straight line. If I remember, no AC either! Uses a suped up Aurora V8, the one I was behind had a truly awesome sounding exhaust. Never forgot how low to the ground it was, like an American-made Lambo or Ferrari, but it had the feel of a modern AC Cobra. A pic of the Shelby Series I: _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| i dont think either of my mirrors are autodimming (and certainly not heated). My rear view mirror is supposed to be, but it hardly works. Maybe my dark tint screws it up, but the lights coming in from the rear never seem to hit the sensor right to activate the dimming. | |

| Hmm.. beginning to think the only heated mirrors w/o auto dim were made for the passenger side. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| does your rear view mirror have a button on it? that is whats suposed to turn on/off the auto dim feature. also the sensor to tell if lights are hitting it is on the lower center part of the rear view mirror. the 96's had the feature and i believe the 95's did too. as stated before, no riv has passenger side auto-dim. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Subject: Replacing the driver side mirror Tue Feb 12, 2008 10:05 pm | |
| My driver side mirror turned that nasty yellow color and had gotten so dark that it was too hard to look out of when driving. My dad cut out a piece from a mirror and very closely trimmed it so it was almost the exact same shape and taped/glued it on. After seeing Ed had a newer dimming driver side mirror that had all the same features mine does and is the same color for around $100 shipped I'm thinking about getting it.
The thing I'm worried about is how difficult that will be to replace. Are the wires going to have to be run through the firewall into the engine compartment? Basically, is it going to be a major pain and a lot of work to replace?
Also, I found a rear view mirror from a newer Rivie with the compass at the top as well as the auto dimmer. Mine isn't leaking or anything but the auto dimmer doesn't work anymore. Would the one with the compass bolt right in with the same wires and everything my old one had or is it only for the cars that came with those preinstalled? Just thought it'd make a nice touch and get me that auto dimmer back at the same time!

| If I remember correctly changing the door mirror isn't that much of a deal. You just remove the door panel and I know the wiring harness unplugs in the door. There is a clip that holds the wiring harness out of the way of the window that is kind of a pain inside the door and then two screws that hold the mirror on that are removed from inside. I'm not sure about the rear view mirror though, I have messed with them some and I think the wiring harness is different? | |

| So, I've needed side mirrors (both) and have found some online for a decent price. As soon as I get some money (job) I'll buy them, but I only find them every now and them. I'd like to find them in my color so I don't have to paint them. I was wondering if mirrors from an Aurora would work as well. I've been looking at them and they seem to be the same shape and have the same mounts. Maybe the cables are different. Any ideas | |
