AA I have a blower and LIM you can port off the car now and when the times comes for your repair just swap it out. It will give you less downtime of not having a car.. If you think your rotors (mine are in very good shape tho) are better you can always swap your rotors in my housing.

Thanks, Eric. I'll pay shipping (and any other cost) up front, and then return my cores to you. I think my rotors are good (they make lots of boost!). How soon can you quote me a shipping cost for the blower housing and LIM?

Thought I'd post their list of elements and purpose/source:

Aluminum: Pistons, bearings, cases (heads & blocks).
Chromium: Rings, a trace element in steel.
Iron: Cylinders, rotating shafts, the valve train, and any steel part sharing the oil.
Copper : Brass or bronze parts, copper bushings, bearings, oil coolers, also an additive in some gasoline engine oils.
Lead: Bearings.
Tin : Bearings, bronze parts, piston coatings.
Molybdenum: Anti-wear additive, coating on some new rings
(washes off as break-in occurs).
Nickel : Trace element in steel.
Manganese: Trace element, additive in gasoline.
Silver: Trace element.
Titanium: Trace element.
Potassium: Antifreeze inhibitor, additive in some oil types.
Boron: Detergent/dispersant additive, antifreeze inhibitors.
Silicon : Airborne dirt, sealers, gaskets, antifreeze inhibitors.
Sodium: Antifreeze inhibitors, additive in some gasoline engine oils.
Calcium : Detergent/dispersant additive.
Magnesium: Detergent/dispersant additive.
Phosphorus: Anti-wear additive.
Zinc : Anti-wear additive.
Barium: Detergent/dispersant additive.

My Molybdenum and Magnesium are WAY higher than average, must be the RP. I'm at 137 & 1369. Aaron, your #'s seem pretty low?

Yes, my oil is very clean. The lower the better, imo. I just like oil in my oil. wink

In a way, I'm glad the anti-freeze showed up. Now I know their testing procedure is accurate, and no metals, or other foreign matter, so overall I'm happy that the engine is in good shape.

Yes, I'm sure it doesn't hurt. I still like to see near zeros, though. Some people mix Marvel Mystery Oil in with their oil, too. I just like oil.

I dumped MMO in the plug holes on my core 455 last night, time to see if I can turn it... and keep it freed up. Might have to rebuild it one of these years. smile

Yeah, that's funny. And yesterday I discovered antacid tablets are basically powdered limestone!

I just got through changing the oil/filter in the "happpy wifes" 99 Riv.
As soon as the sample gets back I will post the results...

3423 miles on GM Goodwrench 10W-30

OK I got the report already but I must have screwed up the info sheet...

They think the engine has only 3,427 miles on it.

The engine/car had 81,927 miles when I sent the oil in for the anaylasis and it had been 3,377 miles(4 1/2 months) since the oil was last changed. GM Goodwrench 10W-30 oil.

I sent them a message with the correct info in hopes that they can give a revised report if needed...

Here is what Blackstone wrote:

We are guessing this 1999 Riviera has a new or rebuilt engine in it since the mileage is only listed as 3,427 miles. Whats amazing is that we usually find a lot more metal in oil from a new engine from parts wearing-in. Universal averages show typical wear for the 3.8L V-6 after a 4,700 mile oil change interval. Your metals read at or below those averages showing nice wear-in and normal wearing parts. The oil's viscosity was a bit lower than normal for a 10W/30 but not enough to harm a thing. As nice as this engine is wearing, you could try 4,500 miles next time.

How can I copy and paste the rest of the info that has all the technical info?

Thanks

You just can't fool these guys. They could tell the engine wasn't new! You received a good report, though. It may not matter how many miles are on the engine.

Those numbers look good. Sodium was high, but they didn't think much of it. Enjoy another 80k miles of good engine!

Thanks for the input, I am stii trying to digest the info.

I noticed the sodium was WAY HIGH.
I also noticed the Magnesium is low and the Moly is high, thats odd.
The viscosity is also kind of puzzling.

Thanks again.

The emailed me back with the amended report based on the correct mileage and said its all good...

They recommended increasing the oil change interval to 5000 miles.

I might go 4000, probably stick between 3000 to 3500 mile interval.

I'm puzzled as well. They tell me sodium and potassium are indicators of coolant in the oil. My numbers are in the mid to upper teens on consecutive tests. They actually came down a couple points the 2nd test. They told me to watch it closely, and don't go more than 4000 miles if I want to push it a bit more than my 3500. But your sodium is 185!

Mag and Moly are oil anti-wear additives. I asked about my levels last week. They said mine are high, but is normal for RP oils.

Yes the sodium level is what concerns me.
Perhaps if both the potassium and sodium levels are high this would indicate a problem but the very high level of sodium by itself is of no concern. It does not seem logical.

The other thing that is weird... scratch

My oil report(all elements) is EXACTLY the same as the Unit/Location Averages column. I edited my post above to show the Unit/Location Averages in parentheses beside the properties of my report.

So does that mean that a 185 Sodium level is the average and normal? study

Someone please compare my report to the averages column on your report...

Just curious. ?
