| I had to replace the pulleys after one seized and the SC belt came off. I replaced the alternator, AC compressor, water pump and a bunch of pulleys. I did not do it all at once but it has been done. I am currently in the process of replacing the rear shocks in my riv. I did the drivers side today along with the shock mount. | |

| Plastic pulleys can melt if the bearing starts to seize and gets really hot. Metal ones usually give you more warning but either way, you're going to loose the pulley regardless once the bearing fails. If you're lucky, you'll get the high pitched squeak as a cue to replace it. | |

| I had no warning a couple weeks ago when my SC idler pulley bearing froze up. All pullies appeared to be OEM yet. Bearing froze, the inner part of the pulley probably heated up as the bearing was failing, resulting in the plastic softening and giving way. The outer pulley basically is ripped away from the inner part with the bearing. Yeah, it looks melted around the bearing.
I've picked up both belts, and new plastic pulleys that are significantly better than GM originally used. Just need some warm days so I can work in the garage. 40 yesterday and today, but supposed to be colder on the weekend again, plus the kids will be all mine for a week, so it'll have to wait a little longer. It sucks being NA with a low comp motor. | |

| Yeah a record or timeline can be an useful tool. You think you have a really good idea about stuff in your head but it gets mixed up I find. I keep a word doc of pretty much everything I do to the car that could matter in the future. Then when something like a belt failing comes up, I know how long and how far I went with it. | |

| I use the forums for this all the time. It's put me in the habit of listing mileage clues from time to time, so if I need to know where the odometer was at a few years ago, can easily calculate. There's a specific thread for this purpose here: https://rivperformance.editboard.com/t769-faq-high-mile-club-wear-repair-reportsIf you are diligent about reporting major repairs, it's almost as good as a log book. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| I maintain a separate notebook for each of my vehicles. Make a dated entry for every service or repair performed, by me or otherwise. Note the parts/fluids used and the mileage. I keep the receipts in the back of each notebook. It certainly helped when I sold a van after 6 yrs and made 50% of my new purchase price. | |

| Agreed, Dave. I keep a log book as well. When my Riv was T-boned a few years back, showing that book to the insurance rep was key in proving the value of the car, which was repaired for $3800 with 133k miles. They even paid for my rental. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
