| Got a bit of a recurring problem here.
My passenger door is fine, but when I open my driver's side door it creaks and squeaks, making the car sound cheap in the parking lots. Should I lube up the spring, hinge, or what? If you want, I'll go take a quick video clip to show you guys what I mean, if you don't know what I'm talking about.
It opens smoothly, but the sound is annoying. It also will be silent one out of 50 times I open and close the door. What should I lube up, and what should I use?

| PB blaster , WD-40 , or silicone sprayed around the hinge will provide a temporary fix , might have to respray every couple of months. My last car did that and i had to respray every couple months. Maybe some lithium grease or something would be a little more permanent. Or perhaps taking a scotch brite and cleaning up some of the surface rust might help too. | |

I know exactly what you mean. I've tried oiling EVERYTHING to little avail - my dad even tried an "old school" trick of heating up the runner with a torch but that didn't change a thing. Like others have said, lube regularly for best results - either lithium or graphite or the like. Mine will return every 3 or so months unless I lube regularly. With our cars I have a feeling this has little to do with a stuck roller or a rusty pin but more to do with the weight of the door on an aging bearing surface. But I still love my Riviera!

| It's either the chunky hinge with a lot of surface area: or the dry, rusty hinge and spring: and I can't really tell which one is making the sound, unless it's both. My dad says it may be a job for axle grease instead of WD-40. Any suggestions with that? Here's a vid: | |

| Yeah i'd try grease if you have it available. WD-40 always did the trick on my old car , but grease would probably last longer. i'd also try taking a scotch brite pad on the hinge by the spring. a smoother surface should make less noises theoretically. | |

Any of the sprays will solve the problem short term, lithium grease might be the best choice if you have some. If not just do as dad says and put any grease you can find on it, just not much. Perhaps apply with a Q tip or something. Bert

| use spray lithium grease, it'll penetrate further then rubbing on axle grease, and last longer than WD40. Spray it on the roller, also on the large hinge into the flat parts... | |

| That is a lot of corrosion on there, I would get rid of some of that before I lubricated it. A wire brush at least, some primer or rust converter, and some paint, then a good coat of silicone or lithium grease. | |
