| kind of above your left foot? There's only one plug that shape in the whole car... But you do have to make sure the thing is plugged in all the way... ?
Pick up some new wires before you troubleshoot much else.

| If I remember right.. wasn't there something you needed to setup before you could start scanning live data with it?
It's been a couple years..double check the instructions... I want to think I remember having to go back and reread them.

| Subject: Knocking noise when placed in gear Wed Mar 26, 2008 1:26 am | |
| It only happens when I put into "DRIVE" or "REVERSE", while in "PARK" it puuuurs. I even stopped at a local Chevrolet dealer and asked if one of the mechanics could come out and take a listen to it. He even went in to grab his stethoscope to listen to it closer and he spent a good 30 min on it to come to no conclusion. I'm hoping someone out there has had the same noise or has heard of it and might give me an idea. The mechanic did say that it didn't sound like transmission troubles, which was the first thing to come to my mind since it only happens when it's in gear. Let me know what you think. | |

| Please give us more of a description. My first gut thought was lower end, but if the mechanic didn't think so.. then it'll be a tougher one to determine.
It is possible that your car ate a ricer and now you need to open the hood to let that hamster back out.

| If it's just one clunk when you initially put it into gear, it might be worn out engine/transmission mounts. | |

| It's actually a continuous sound, most noticeable when the car is stopped and in gear, like when stopped at a red light. After I posted the question here, I told this to a buddy of mine and he suggested it could be worn out belts (which they are) or even one of the pulleys. and it's most noticeable when stopped and in gear because the RPM lowers at that point. Does any of this make any sense. Anyways, I already have the belts to replace (1 Gatorback and 1 Gates) so I'll be doing that this weekend and get back with the results. | |

| well i had a mazda b4000 pickup truck when i would stop it would get a horrible knocking sound when accelerated the noise would go away ,well after $3000.00 on a new transmission and court battles with Aamco i diagnosed the problem to be a alternator going bad. check the alt. | |

| Could be something like a worn control arm bushing. Mine do that, plus I get an annoying vibration at a stoplight in gear. Plus a little clunk when I shift to reverse. Plus a little creak/squeak when I start from a stop...
I know my right two control arm bushings are gone, one of them is pretty bad. I have new control arms to go in next weekend, hopefully that'll take care of all my weird creaks and groans.

| Ohh, and it wasn't the belts by the way. I switched out both belts this past weekend and the sound is still there. Next step is to replace some of the pulley's (which ever ones I can find) Any idea where I can get info on size or numbers for the pulleys? This is something I've never had to do to any of my previous cars so I'm kind of in the dark. I thought I could just buy a kit, but there doesn't seem to be one for our cars. Thanks | |

| I'd guess....
a. Harmonic balancer or idler is shot b. Torque converter bolts loose c. Damaged engine/tranny mounts
All 3 make one hell of a knocking rattling noise, usually under load. just guess' by the way.
