PostSubject: "New" engine cover!   "New" engine cover! EmptyTue May 06, 2008 8:54 pm

It's still in the making at this point, but I thought I'd bring you guys up to date. WAAAYYY back when in February or something I said I was gonna paint my engine cover. Then I got one, and had to wait until it was warm out. Well, it's warm out, and as with everyone else on this site, things are gonna get done under the hood now!

I washed it with Simple Green, and after looking at the two covers the one that blackbart95 sent me was less yellow and had more tabs on the bottom, and was in overall better condition, so I decided to clean that and stick it on the engine. Instead, I'm painting the one that was on my car when I got it, so that noone has to see the dark yellow cover ever again...

Here it is so far, primed and waiting. Says to wait 5-7 days for maximum paint adhesion, and since it'll be peeling off eventually I may as well wait. Paint's good until 200*F, then it starts deteriorating and peeling. Oh well, I'll just use it for show and on short trips. Saturday through Monday, I'm painting doing it as soon as I get the opportunity!

Wow, I have a lot of really old junk on top of that bin...

Looks nice and even.

Too bad there's no "high heat" primer.

Or is there?

Yes there is a high heat primer, but not one made for plastics. All new game here. I bought plastic primer and regular paint, because high heat comes in white, gray, and black.

I like the look of the series 1 ribbed cover better than the series 2 cover.

Jack: agreed.

The Series 2 cover is total cheese. I've seen some good modifications, but overall, it's better without it.

The Series 1 cover actually showed off most of the supercharger. When I first got my Regal with the S2 I was like "wait, where is the supercharger?" Granted I didn't know any better.... but still, they covered the highlight of the engine.

If I had a Series 1, I'd keep the cover on there.

And I just noticed... you didn't pool the primer anywhere in the letters or numbers. Nice job.

Looks good, I repainted mine about a year and a half ago, and all i did was clean and de-grease it, then I painted it with regular grey paint and Testors model car black paint for the letters. It hasn't turned yellow again or peeled or burned off.

Why do you always have to resize my detailed pictures that show all the details in high detail in a thread that's about detailing, AA?

Pics are limited to 720 pix wide. Until you learn to crop your own images, I will do it for you (this time on a 10-year-old 450 MHz Mac, using dial-up). This is a favor I'm willing to do in order to preserve the integrity of the board. It's not meant as a personal stab.

And it's not my rule, it's something members decided they wanted a long time ago. I think we even voted on it. Any further concerns, post in this thread:

https://rivperformance.editboard.com/board-news-f2/image-size-code-please-use-it-t2496.htm

Thx,

AA

Oh, I thought there was an exception for pics like this, showing details. Thanks for giving the "click for larger image" thing. I am not expected to crop them in my showroom thread, right?

Right, your showroom thread is yours. I still keep mine at 720 though.

Interesting color?!? Kind of feminine? Only ran the letters a little.
A good bit of detailing under the hood and it should turn out decent. thumbsup

No offense but that color kind of makes it look like a toy. I always thought the Series I's in general had kind of weird looking blowers. We once test drove a Series I Riv (I had my Riv at the time) and man it was so weird. The motor sounded a lot different and at the time I didn't know there was a different motor in them so I thought something was wrong with it. Not to mention it didn't feel near as fast as our Riv so I thought it was just a piece of crap (I think it was listed at $3,000 and this was 3 or 4 years ago).

Sorry, I'm not seeing the connection between your less-than-desirable test drive and Ilan's paint job. puzzled

No no, it just made me think of it. It wasn't until I got home and looked at mine did I realize they weren't the same. I was expecting it to be exactly the same as (Or close to) my car. Had I known I wouldn't have thought so negatively of it.

I think I was trying to make a point but it got lost somewhere between my brain and the keyboard. Blame it on the prom I'm going to today...
