Not to be disagreeable but I would definitely NOT do that. I'd get another riv wheel thats in better shape or rewrap it yourself and just replace the buttons or something.

Wow, very mature. If you didn't want to know someone's opinion, then don't post on a community message board.

I respect you Corey, I really do. Your gusto for the Riviera is amazing.

Just try to act more like the adult that you are.

All right, fair enough.

I dunno. This is by far the only message board I really visit on a regular basis and post on. It's a tight community here, with all good guys.

Most message boards are full of a bunch of sarcastic assholes. You know the guys I'm talking about. They infest at LOT of car message boards or any other board you can think of, really (the IMDB movie boards come to mind).

I just don't ever want to see this board go downhill like 90%+ of the other boards out there.

Sorry if I reacted harshly, Corey. I know you're one of the good guys.

Apparently not in KY they don't. The list of compliments I can recollect:
-Guy at Toyota dealership (I was looking at one of their cars however...)
-My friend's dad
-My one friendly elderly neighbor
-One of the guys putting in our new fence

I know at least four or five people who've explicitly said my car was ugly/stupid/slow/etc. I rank everyone else into the "Whazzat?" or "Is it as fast as my Civic?" category. Sometimes, I just wanna hammer people...(Oh no wait, that's all the time...oh well!)

All my girls that I hung out with in college seemed to dig it. They liked the comfy seats, big interior, and the color (metallic slate green).

Most guys had something smartass to say about it being a "Grandpa's car" - to which I say, let me see your Grandpa's car, and we'll compare styling and performance. Hope he's rich.

I raced a kid in his early 2000 model V6 Mustang - he had the blue racing stripe over white, and dual exhaust. It had some pep, but I killed him off the line, and it was over before it began.

"Damn, you put a supercharger on that thing?"

No, the factory did it for me. I just added a couple "goodies."

And I just got an emissions check done a week ago, and the ladies working it were very impressed. "How many miles on the car?" 59k. "Wow, that's not very many... this is a beautiful car! This is one of the last years they made them, right?" Yep, a '98. They stopped making them in '99. "I always liked the Riviera."

I never got those kind of complements in my Regal... God, I love this car.

My Regal was faster, but I feel as though I'm more passionate about the Riviera. It's almost like a status symbol!

Hmph, you have much better luck than I. My paint is scratchy, I'm missing my chrome centercaps and there are several little things on the exterior that bother me that I think detract from the car's image and I can't really do anything about them without taking drastic measures (Either killing myself cleaning them which I've tried to a degree or entirely replacing/repainting them and that's expensive!).

I think my cousin in his 850 R has gotten more compliments although he's done more stuff to it (Loud exhaust, neon underlights, not to mention his car is that pretty bright red they paint them). I'd repaint my car but at 144k miles I can hardly justify spending the price to get it painted when everything else on it is that old. All it'd do is make me worry about where I park it and get angry if anyone ever chipped/scratched/scuffed my paint. If it were lower miles or a newer car I wouldn't be so hesitant, but I could never justify it to my parents or even myself.

Besides, if I went to all that trouble even though I may appreciate it, I'd be pissed if I never heard any compliments from anyone. I have nothing I take my car to. No meets, none of my friends (They don't give a damn about cars other than for basic transportation), nothing. I mean damn, people can have bone stock Audi A4s or BMW 328i's and people are like "Nice car!" - albeit a somewhat trained response. I still think it's amazing they have no idea what my car is and when I say a Riviera they say "Grandpa car" even though I never mentioned Buick. Bunch of dolts...

Ya sometimes i envy the w-body crowd for being quicker than us g-body guys , but really the riv is so much more elegant than the regal inside and out. yeah its missing some features that it should but its a luxurious car regardless. Sometimes cars just seem like a regular car with a nice engine . leather seats and bells and whistles , lexus has been criticized of this frequently but im getting at the regal) The riv is more of a designed then engineered car rather than a engineered them designed over a platform. The regal is a clean looking car , but it just doesnt evoke any kind of respect or elegance. its a fine car in function , quiet , smooth riding , roomy etc. but it lacks the charm of the riv. I mean Riviera just sounds plain sexy. So what if we're a little slower , thats the whole point of modding anyway. People think im nuts being so enamored with this car , but the more people ride in it , the more they love it too. And yeah , chicks dig it , some say big cars are compensating , i say theyre accomodating.

As for grandpa car , F*** em. two of my friends used to call my car a grampa car , i drove them in it and now they call it the grandpa car from hell... i'm cool with that.

Shintsu - I agree with you, it would not be worth it to repaint the car with 144k on the clock. Your car might get to 200k with proper maintenance, but who knows really how long it'll last. These cars are dependable, but they're not the most dependable in the world, that's for sure.

It seems like people are constantly fucking up my nice car. It all started with this:

https://rivperformance.editboard.com/exterior-f12/auto-body-questionsask-here-t3036.htm?highlight=bodywork

I actually attempted to fix it myself, which was disastrous. I found a guy to do the bodywork and paint for $500 - a steal. He actually offered to paint the hood, which had several deep scratches and the paint was chipping away as well. The hood was slightly dimpled (which I never noticed) and he offered to fix that, and also some extra scratches on the bumper - all included in the price. He had it for 3 weeks, but he worked by himself and I had the Regal to drive around (at the time).

So, I got it fixed. But then my Regal got fucked up in that big accident, and the Riv became my all-time car (we only bought the Riv because it was such a great deal).

Then I had to drive the Riv back to school - I've counted at least 3 dings from it being up there for only ONE SEMESTER. Kids are fucking assholes. The parking there is sardine-like so I had to park next to people no matter what. Plus it was the winter, and I didn't feel like walking an extra 50 yards after parking my car in unplowed areas. Overall, boo.

The chrome rims, grill, and tips make it attract more attention than ever before, which is a bad thing. Plus I'm going back to school. We'll see how she does over the next few years.

My friend liked my Regal a lot, but once he rode in the (stock!) Riviera, he was like "This is a much nicer car."

And it is. Just not as fast. Big deal, I don't do 1/4 mile runs, nor will I ever. I like to beat on people but it's usually from a roll so I don't fuck my tranny like I did my Regal.
