| I let the tank get pretty low last night, enough to fill with 16.5 gal. When I started the car, it hesitated, then revved up really fast, then stalled. Started again, no problem. Engine runs great, starts up perfect every time - except it seems when I fill up on an empty tank. Doesn't seem to care if I fill it up with 1/2 tank. Any ideas? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Maybe youre sucking in air in the fuel lines when you let it get that low? Has it always done this? | |

| Not that I've noticed, but I usually never let it get that low. I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience. I've noticed it rev high for a second after filling up a low tank, but it has never actually stalled like this time. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Might be something with the venturi type setup in the tank. Not sure what or how..because it's purpose is to refill the bucket. | |

| I had 1/8 tank left yesterday and we topped it off with $70 , and after we filled it up it sounded like a hard start but she ran perfectly and smoothly on the hour long ride back home. | |

| So this happens with both SC and N/A engines. Hmmm. Lionfish, has this continued to happen since last year? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| It is still happening, but it is intermittent. The car starts, revs and stalls. I try again and it starts and I'm off and running. On the 95 I have OBD I. | |

| Seems like this is a problem in the general gas tank design for all years , even though the sizes changed.

| Forgive me. I suppose this should be merged to the N/A forum (?!!). _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| No, I thought about merging them, then decided not to. One of those cases where I guess it's okay, because the threads are in separate forums. It happens. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| I've unfortunately run my tank empty twice (fuel gauge doesn't work below below the half tank range) and both times, I put the 2 gal or so of gas and it fired right up and didn't stall, surge, or anything. I didn't prime the pump or anything. | |

| similar problem. the past 3 or 4 weeks when i go to fill up it takes b/w 14-16 gallons. when istar the car it is fine but a few mins down the road the empty light goes on then the gauge starts to go right down to empty with in 2 min. no stuttering or stalling thoe. i personaly think it is b/c when i fill up and the nozzels clicks i still cap it off a few mor cents. so i think the gas is filling up to high maybe and scewing up the fuel gauge sensor. but i dont no. | |

| I installed a new Delco (GF578) fuel filter this afternoon. I'll see what happens at my next fillup. | |

| My guess would be a pump pickup screen clogged with crap or else dislodged. When you fill from empty you splash around at the bottom of the tank and break up the crap a bit, until you start pumping again.
It's the only thing down there...
??
Next person who has this problem and drops the tank please let us know.

| Well.... I filled up my newly aquired Dodge caravan today. Left it runnin(wife and kid were inside), and it began stalling and sputtering as it filled, just the opposite of the rivi...... just dont make no sense... | |

| Did they make the tanks smaller in later years? I've filled my car up when it said it had 1/4 of a tank the last time and I put 18 gallons in. I did hear a gurgling sound from the tank so I think it was right up to the brim with gas. | |

It's the only thing down there... That sounds right, if it only happens when the puddle of gas is so shallow that the incoming gas could dislodge something from the bottom of the tank. Shintsu, I believe they changed from a 19.6 gallon tank in the '95 (and '96, if I'm correct) to a 18.4 gallon tank in the '97 and up Riv's. Give or take -0.1/+0.1 gallons.
